4 important albums from when you were 18

A lot really. But 4.

  1. Ozzy “Blizzard of Oz”.
  2. Slayer “South of Heaven”.
  3. Deep Purple “Machine Head”.
  4. Metallica “Master of Puppets”.

Welcome aboard!

Great choices. Deep Purple is one of those bands no matter how hard I try, I can never fully get into them. Rest on your list is absolutely killer though. “South…” is a criminally underrated Slayer album. Sure, they gave up some aggression but they entered a whole other realm of ambience on that album.

I turned 18 in '91, and I had.
Metallica-Black Album
Skid Row-Slave to the Grind
Guns N Roses-Use Your Illusion 1 & 2
I know it was 90, but Pantera just came out with Cowboys From Hell.
In my opinion the end of great rock.

I turned 18 in 1979 (wow, I guess I AM old). I was as anti-disco and anti-top 40 as you could get. Growing up in the Cleveland area in those days, we had WMMS as the powerhouse radio station when they were in their peak, and they were the best around. I’m still that way - I hate top 40 music, and prefer a harder edge to my music. For me, the 4 most important albums when I was growing up (not in any particular order) were:

  1. AC/DC - Highway to Hell
  2. Led Zep - In Through the Out Door
  3. Pink Floyd - The Wall
  4. ZZ Top - Deguello

And 2 others that were important to me:

  1. Molly Hatchet - Flirtin’ With Disaster
  2. 38 Special - Rockin’ Into the Night
