You should probably just get a Pbass because you’ll eventually get one anyway
You haven’t stated your top dollar price but I can tell you that used Tribby’s can be gotten in the $400-$450 range and if you keep checking the G&L Store on their website they will list new “B” Stock stuff for as little as $250-$300. They’ll have some finish flaws but otherwise they’re as good as new.
I bought a six string Comanche “Blem” guitar from G&L for $425 that lists for $700 and picked up my M2000 Tribute bass as a dealer demo for a little over $400. They are no longer made but if so they would list for around $800 new. So you can find deals on them if you search online. The Tributes are all made by Cor-Tek and they are very high value versions of G&L’s US models.
Get what you like but remember that if you’re referencing the top string, you’ll have some issues at first. After several months, you’ll be able to swap between the four or five strings and you’ll wonder why some people just give up and go back to four strings.
