A little music related fun (Part 1)

Another little old band from Texas. Psychedelic, funk, soul steeped in a soup of world music. Little to no vocals.

Not a new-new band, but a unique musical world view, for sure.

Their drummer has always looked like the most chill, relaxed human. Like of all of us.

A couple years ago I said something like a plane could crash in to their gig, and he’d still sit there, just grooving along.

I recently started listening and like them. I found them when Fender (God Bless them) released a signature bass that looked exactly like a million other Fender Jazz basses.

They are super nice and humble in interviews too.

That reminds me, how’s ACL this year?

It gets even better. It’s a signature bass that’s a reproduction of a cheap SX knockoff of a fender

SX/Rondo gets a lot of hate but every one I have played was really well made

Hers the complete lineup over the three days of the festival.

Sundays got the most bands that I’d dig seeing. Being in Austin, I was kind of hoping Sixteen Deluxe might make an appearance.

Yeah same, though TBH not a lot there I would rush out for. But that’s fine, it just means it would be a new band discovery weekend instead and that’s fun too.

This year’s lineup doesn’t do it for me.

Past ACLs would regularly feature some heavy hitter headliners and lots of other acts that were not as well-known but still solid.

Killers and Wet Leg make it Sunday which is solid but in general yeah, this is one for checking out new bands.

and Julie. They’re a solid newer shoegaze band.

I might be 74, but I’d really dig catching Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso on Sunday.

Here’s another, longer show from Buenos Aires with a very cool set. They’re very good showmen.

Skrilla on Friday would be solid too.

Ya that’s the only band on the whole lineup I’d go see, and not miss either. Can’t stop listening to them.

I’ve been listening to them for a while. I do like Laura Lee’s bass but I’m particularly taken with that slightly retro sound of Mark Speer’s.
