really strange story which will be stranger because i don’t want to get into the weird specifics. but i had my kala ubass in it’s soft case next to my sofa. in the case i also had my brand new neo grid headphone setup. i went to grab it the other day… and it was gone. i had taken it to my local coffee shop last week, even posted a thread on it. i was 100% sure i had brought it home, but… it’s gone. as a super long shot i texted my daughter, who had been at the house this week grabbing some of her stuff because she’s moving. and luckily, for a really convoluted reason, she had thought it was her uke bass and had grabbed it. so thank god i didn’t wind up gifting someone a very nice early xmas present. the point is, do any of you use airtags or any other tracker to track your bass (or anything else?). i have an android phone so i am looking at android versions. they are really pretty pricey (the android ones are a LOT more than the apple ones) and i would like to hear how they work if anybody does it.
while i have not needed then, i have 4 airtags: one in my daily backpack, one in each of my pieces of luggage, and one in my car. have tested it a few times and they definetly work as advertised, so if you can get them or similar i say go for it. not sure about android but i got a 4 pack of airtags for about $80 from amazon.
its about $80 for ONE android
btw rkm is building a space on the back of their new basses to hold an airtag. seems like a cool idea.
I have AirTag on all my “Gig” bags and If I’m bringing more than 2 basses I put AirTag on each bass. there’s enough room and the silicone cover keeps it from moving around inside.
I also have a couple of them handy in my backpack along with some keychain case, you never know what or when you need it. Both my daughters are going to Disneyland with my wife and sister today they both have them on their wrist.
I’ve tried Tile, it works well for a spell until AirTag, here in SoCal almost every other person are using iPhone so the signal is just awesome.
i have no idea how i was looking at prices that were a lot lot more than that the other day. damn day drinking
If you’re really paranoid, true/full blown GPS trackers are disturbingly cheap and, unlike air tags, don’t require people with iPhones to be near by. Gives a true GPS coordinate regardless of location.
Might be overkill but, depending on how much you value your equipment, might be worth it if you’re traveling a lot.
i could definitely see touring bands or people with foderas doing this.
Ahhhh Bloom County, where have you been?
I’m actually still not sure if you’re talking about the bass manufacturer or spies, as they could both work in this context.
People With Foderas is a B-tier band name
I have Galaxie Smart Tags. I have one on my Jeep keys, my car keys, my dog’s collar and a hidden one in my Jeep itself. So far, the tags on my keys have cut the search time dramatically for them when |I set them down somewhere strange. For my dog, I bought a rubberized holder that goes on his collar. I’ve found him a couple times when He got outside the fence. The smart tags also have a beep feature to help pinpoint them.
so just to be clear (I think I know how they work but,) if you’re close to the object it uses Bluetooth but long range it leverages a carrier system like iPhones or a cellular network correct? is that the idea with these things?
They are always BLE beacons (Bluetooth Low Energy). iPhones simply forward their location and share it to Apple.
So do some wifi hotspots.
The Samsung smart tags ping nearby Samsung devices to triangulate location. When you are close enough, you can locate with bluetooth.
excellent. thanx guys.
