Hey Dear BassBuzzers,

I wanna get Half-Rounds on my 4-String Bass. But I can only take stainless steel or gold strings because I have multiple skin metal allergies (Nickel, Chrom, Cobalt).
Which allergy-friendly Half-Rounds can you recommend me?
Thank you very much in advance.
Wish you all the Bass

Have you considered tapewounds (typically nylon-coated roundwounds)? Really interesting strings that have a great sounds (though not as zingy as uncoated ones). La Bella has them, GHS and DโAddario also.

Not what the OP was asking, but I had the same thought. I have a set of black nylon tape wounds from Italian string maker Gallistrings on my 5-string fretless Lignum Spring. They play and sound fantastic through the Delano pickup and preamp. They offer the G77 tapes in 4-, 5- and 6-string sets.

I would go with tapewounds or flats (most of which are stainless) over half rounds. But then Iโm not a fan of them

Also have you considered using gloves to play? It takes very little time to get used to them

Not to try and shut you down here, but if youโre allergic you should know that stainless steel is an alloy of iron, carbon and chromium. Depending on how allergic you are to chrome, you may want to look at options like tapewound or coated strings like Elixirs (which may fix all of this for you).
