Alternate plucking and slides

I’m learning a piece (Placebo, Every You Every Me) which is mostly chugging, so mostly straight forward straight alternate plucking. But there are occasional slides. I tend to reuse the same after on the next note to make sure I start each measure on the same finger. Is that appropriate or should I stick to strict alternation even in that case? How do you handle such things?

It’s fine to skip an up stroke and use the downstroke to keep the same rhythm going. I mean if this were finger style you would always start with the index finger, this is the same.
