So… I picked up a bass in college in the late 90’s. Took a couple lessons and decided to go my own way and just play tabs. Got serviceable in a garage and that’s about it.
Graduated… started teaching and coaching… and sold two guitars and all my gear. Kept one bass in a closet. It set there for a decade and I loaned it to our high school jazz band. And they used it for a decade. I retrieved it and had not been treated with the love she deserved…. And then I put her back in a closet for a few years. I know…. Don’t judge me.
Well… I took her to a guitar doctor and he brought her back to life! I went to a pawn shop and bought an amp… and I bought the Bass Buzz course. All I can say is that this 1996 Ibanez ATK can still thump, and I am absolutely loving the course. I know way more than I did on my own!
I cannot say enough good things about this course and this community. I have been reading and lurking, but the information you provide is unbelievable! Please keep providing answers to the questions us newbies are afraid to ask!
As another guy who had a bass sitting in a closet for many a year, I agree that the course and the forum are phenomenal. Everything you need to get up and running. Good luck with the rest of the modules.
I’ve told the story on here before, but I had a P bass I bought off eBay back in 98-99 or so and never really did anything with it. It floated around from basement to garage with no case or anything until this past October when I dug it out cleaning the garage. I figured I should finally do something with it and learn bass finally. Cleaned it up, replaced the twisted neck, pitted chrome hardware, and converted it to short scale with a jazz neck.
Your story is similar to mine. I picked up a bass in the late 90s/early 00s myself, no lessons just what was available on the internet at the time. Stagnated because I didn’t have any direction on how to learn, ended up selling all my music gear when I moved.
It took me 25 years to pick up the bass again, and my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. I really quickly surpassed my old skill level despite essentially starting over from scratch, and I wonder where my progress would be if I’d started even just a year or two sooner than I did. But as the saying goes, while the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is now.
This is one of the friendliest and most supportive communities I’ve found on the modern internet. Between the course and the forums you’re gonna have a good time.
