My upright mouse is actually an Anker, great design.
Proper ergos make the world of difference, plenty of videos to show how to set up correctly. I do find that too much phone use (tap tap tap) messes with my hand more than the mouse, so consider everything you are doing, might not be the mouse’s fault.
And, while I’m stoked that the tablet has worked well for @mgoldst - it has done the opposite for me. Working more and more with digital art has been tough.
Maybe I’m pushing too hard, maybe it’s the grip on the stylus, but that slick surface and stylus have been exacerbating my forearm issues.
I like the idea of doing the mouse with the left hand. I’m a gunna try that.
Otherwise, if the tablet works, hooray!
If not, just make sure you play with a very light and relaxed plucking technique!!
fair enough, but just a heads up that with good tablets (namely, wacom) you can buy different surfaces of different textures and smoothnesses, as well as different nibs for the pen itself to dial in a feel that works for you. also not sure what you had by way of brand but my experience is that there is wacom and then there is everything else, almost all of which is not good.
(i swear i am not sponsored by wacom, but using a tablet was such a complete game changer for me personally, hence me having all the feels about it)
I got a new desk with more space, but the standard desk height is too high for me. I’m probably average height (180cm or 5’11"), but even with chair at max height and my elbow by my side, my elbow has a greater than 90deg bend. I haven’t really worked in my office for nearly 2 years now and at the office I had the desk lowered. People thought I was crazy due to not being short, but they must just be lucky enough to not suffer the pain.
I think this may have started it last year. I was having trouble sleeping so would often be mindlessly scrolling whilst lying in bed. I think the fact that my elbow was bent pretty much to the max (hand up near shoulder) + tap, scroll, scroll, tap, that I upset my arm. I don’t do that anywhere near as much now, but need to be mindful that any phone use is probably stopping it getting better.
A while ago I started playing this dart game on my phone at night, had to stop.
Whatever motion was used to toss the dart destroyed my arm almost in a day or so.
I’ve also hear of “text neck”. Kinda sad.
I struggle to keep my boys off their phone, especially the older one. Seems like if he isn’t playing electronic games, he stares are stuff on his phone or msg mates.
I’m not trained in anything but I used to manage a cubicle office space for over 700 people and would often help them with basic ergonomics. You really want to have an adjustable chair if you can (overall height and arm rest height), so you can keep your shoulder in a low, natural position, with your elbow and forearm resting on the arm rest and your hand loosely on the mouse with as little twist or bend in the wrist/lower arm as possible. Most people need a keyboard tray attached to the desk to make this happen (you can buy clamp-on keyboard trays that aren’t terribly expensive and don’t require screws).
At the same time, if you’re new to working your hand/wrist playing bass it can take some time to get used to the movement - just go slow and don’t push too hard. Good luck.
