From The Wetter Bass…
The NUX chorus did surprisingly well.
Also, the groove he plays for the second half is pretty cool. It’s worth listening to just for that.

Nice comparison! I got myself the Boss CE-2W. Boss/Roland chorus is just too good.
I love them all but I still love the Bass Clone the most
So I’m going to give the EHX top points for the most effecty coolness. The surprise winner for natural realness is the 2B which I didn’t even know existed. It’s undetectable as an effect.
Can anyone suggest a Chorus pedal that isn’t watery?
Here’s the Boss Waza Craft Deminsion C demo on bass, to show what I’m talking about. Are there any others out there like this?
Edit: There is also the TC Electronic Third Dimension which is a pretty close copy at a fraction of the price. Not quite as organic (?) sounding but pretty close considering the price.
I still think the EHX Bass Clone is the best chorus, I like it better than the Julia.
I think by “watery” you want to not have the vibrato-like effect? You can get that on any of them by turning down the LFO freq, usually called “Rate” on most of them.
Thanks @howard. I didn’t know it was that simple. With that in mind, I think I’ll go ahead and start with a Bass Clone and go from there.
I have the EH Bass Clone and like it. Dont you work for Aguilar @eric.kiser ?
I would buy that pedal just for the name.
eventide also thought they could do a cool dino name for a chorus…not sure they were as successful (they do have a dino graphic on the pedal though which is a plus)
Eventide is amazing but they appear to be suffering from Julia Disease there and trying to cram too much in to a single pedal that should just focus on doing Chorus well.
Here is a focused Chorus pedal with lotta options…I mean I have no idea how it sounds but it looks nice
Lol mighty coincidence with the other thread, this looks like an example of a harmonizer/chorus hybrid
Yeah, well, they don’t seem think so. What can you do?
Intrigued by the tech21 pedal… I tried cascading pitch shift with chorus effects in my b1 four. Pretty interesting possibilities here. About 6 cents works well.
@CoolCat They come up on talkbass.com classifieds about every four months for around $150. Anywhere else I’ve seen them, the prices can be double that or more.
I -love- quality analog effects. I’ve spent more than I care to admit on effects for guitar. For bass… I swore up and down: one bass, one amp until I get “good”. I made an exception for the zoomie just because a) it does -so- much useful stuff and b) I actually like the way it sounds, especially on all the modulation stuff.
Chorus does sound real nice on bass. When I build a bass pedalboard, it’ll have an analog chorus.
I love chorus (and other modulation effects) on bass! And yet, I use them very rarely.
Why?
You can have carefully crafted a tone at home and found the perfect settings for your chorus pedal (etc.) and it sounds gorgeous when you play alone and even when playing to a drum track or a jam track.
As soon as you bring all that to another venue (rehearsal room, bar room, ball room, church, …), this has a tendency to quickly go down the drain and then you have to struggle and make fixes in a hurry to avoid a boomy, muddy, not well defined sound from your bass. Maybe you can save the day with careful EQ’ing, but it’s stressful, and more often than not, the very first and easiest “remedy” is to switch off that chorus/flanger/tremolo/…
I am not saying it is not possible to get it to work, but it’s hard work, and chasing tones at home and thinking that all translates well to wherever you play is, unfortunately, a dream.
I think this especially applies to modulation effects.
