Bass Porn

This is true for many things outside of bass. You can be the greatest luthier alive and start your own business. but a lot of people have no idea how to actually run that business and really should get somebody else to handle the business side of things.

I hope to have a story on that soon. Maybe.

Not sure if porn or ugly, but the one thing I know is that Fender Japan is a lot more creative than the USA Fender folksā€¦

Fender Performerā€¦

I kinda dig it.

My Carvin is technically a Kiesel; itā€™s an X44 Xccelerator, made by Kiesel but sold under the Carvin name. The workmanship on it is effing amazing, itā€™s the best bass Iā€™ve ever owned.

Would I buy another Kiesel? Yes. I lust after the Icon (the only carry-over from the pre-Kiesel Carvin days of my youth) and I think that the PBs are really nice. But! I would probably buy used. I just went through the purchasing process with them for some small parts and it was painful.

Yes Carvin used to be the ā€œdoing business asā€ for Keisel.
Winder if they still make amplifiers. I think Steve Vai used to be a supporter of their amps back in the day.

My social media policy, and I practice it here, is Iā€™m here to celebrate  music, and if I donā€™t have a positive comment, I donā€™t say anything. Well, I do tell my cat but he is very disinterested.

Stuff you say online is out there forever. You need to be careful. He wasnā€™t, to the harm of his business. He was probably having a bad day.

Yes, but itā€™s not Kiesel. The two businesses split: Kiesel took over the guitar/bass business, Carvin Audio took over the other side. Iā€™ve seen some news reports of Carvin Audio shutting down a few years ago, but their website is still up and active:

Next stop the 70s

That pretty much cements it. You will have produced the first GAS in our house not coming from the bass player. I just hope she doesnā€™t sell something else to get it.

I like it, except itā€™s a burst, so no.

ā€¦I just ordered it domestically for LESS than 50% of what it would have cost to get it from Japan via eBay.

Soā€¦ thought I was done buying basses for a long timeā€¦ that was incorrect.

Good find!

yeah, the ebayers here really mark things up. Usually best to check the stores themselves first as some ship internationally - but shipping to the US is ruinous at the moment.

Definitely reminds me of 1970ā€™s Granada tv for some reasonā€¦

The Fender Performer was designed after CBS sold Fender in 1985. It was designed in the US but they went with Japanese manufacturing because the factories in Japan had better quality and consistency, at the time.

They did both a bass and guitar model. It was meant to revitalize Fender when the new holding company took over.

On a personal levelā€¦ itā€™s different. I would have put it in the ugly duckling thread instead of the bass porn thread though. :joy:

Oh my. This one definitely goes in the ugly duckling thread.

Itā€™s very Starsky and Hutch.

@papkerry That is going to be one cool bass when itā€™s finished.

Be sure and post the completed pictures when itā€™s done.
