I am not so much a burst guy, unless it is Cherry burst. That is not the best cherry burst they have done either, but it sure it nice.
For the best Sterling Ray 34 Cherry burst see Davie 504’s Ray 34. I love that one. I like it better with the Maple fretboard which they did one or two years back between 2008 and 2014 I believe. Those had matching headstocks too and said Ray34 on it, so easily better then what they are putting out now, but I still must have to say I am impressed.
The purple with black hardware, very nice.
I will admit that the electronics on todays package are probably better then the ones back in 2010’s were however. Today Sterling Ray 34’s get the USA stingray pick up and preamp that was used in EBMM Stingrays prior to 2018.
In 2018 the USA version got an Neodymium pick up and upgraded 18v preamp, and that same year the USA electronics from before went to the Sterling Ray’s, so I would probably have to say the Cherry burst from today might be better from the electronic standpoint, but from the overall looks, they were better back when
EDIT: I may get shot for this, but I am not such a huge fan of Roasted Maple necks from a looks standpoint. Hard to argue with them for many reasons, but I prefer maple one pc or Maple with Maple fretboard personally.
That said, my favorite Ray4 has a rosewood, go figure. My EBMM SLO Special has Maple 1 pc, and looks oh so sexy.
I really only have 2 basses with maple necks, even tho I prefer the look to most anything else, with acceptation to some of the super cool finishes that EBMM does on some of their BFR and custom run basses and fretless (See Al’s @Al1885 pics for those).
And going even further, my dream P bass is a 70’s white with black pick guard and rosewood or whatever dark wood they were using back then, but that is purely a SID thing.
The Duff Bass is close, but is a P/J with Black Headstock, and his bass is sexy, but if I were to choose between the two, I have to go with Sid’s bass. Why? see my avatar.
