Bass Porn

I was actually looking at that, and was going to comment, but decided against it. Since you brought it up, though…

I wonder if they were factory, or added afterwards? I did a quick Google search and couldn’t find any with thumb rests at all. Granted, it was only a cursory look.

Here’s a shot of a vintage Coronado. Notice the dual rests.

Huh, I couldn’t find a one. Again, though, I didn’t put a lot of time into it.

I’m so used to seeing that body shape as a guitar, the Fender bass headstock looks odd to me on it.

They’re out there. Here’s another 1967 Coronado.

I love the binding on the f hole thing.
Classic.

Yeah, the first one (white) is a basic player version.

The burst and red ones are deluxe versions: two pups, binding, better bridge.

The bottom thumb rest ( tug bar) is a real nod to the past when a good few played with their thumb hooking their fingers under the bar

Who says Fender doesn’t try new things?
“Gold Foil” Jazz Bass

Interesting.

Headstock and tuners are a huge improvement. Is that a Gretsch-style humbucker or a single coil?

Would look 10x better with a white pickguard and maple neck. I don’t completely hate the salami there, just kind of moderate aversion

Love the lack of a control plate, though the dollar store plastic knobs aren’t helping.

I’ll start a GoFundMe that I assume you’ll all contribute to

Like we said recently: body shape

Yeah it’s the body shape. Fender bass with offset contours = Jazz Bass

It seems they are shifting main production to Mexico and focusing on customshop in the US.

I did not know that.

Last year they laid off the entire second shift in CA and shut it down, so makes sense that more higher priced things will come out of CA only. Don’t know about full CS only but if you think about Rickenbacker or EBMM the USA stuff is all well over the $2000 price point and Fender still had things sitting under it.
