I wasn’t sure where to post this, however perhaps it could be considered some type of demented bass porn?

Marleaux - if you’re watching, send me a Spock and I’ll see if I have time to review it on my Youtube channel :+1:

Ooh, that’s nice!

That’s really a cool bass! German ingenuity at it’s best.

Fun fact: the development was subsidized by the German government.
That means: my taxes. I should get one for free. Promise, not to mod it

It’s very post-apocalyptic / high tech / organic / alien / Shroud of Turin … love it too!

Why don’t you put a saw to one of your hollow bodies, and put some waxed / dyed cloth from a burlap sack on it?

Should be very similar … no need for government subsidies when you can mod

Neat, found it locally, I could get it for about $400. 1985 MIJ with a good neck and truss rod. Has some rash on it, though. I’d also be replacing a lot of the hardware. Still, cool bass.

I hope you’re reading this @marleauxbasses lol

I’m pretty incapable at practical work but it would be a pretty cool project - especially the Turin shroud :joy: :joy:

In fact, I really hope that they read this!

Why is this bass subsidized with my money and I still have to pay 4000€ for it? Why does the German government not support my modding? I do modding for the people (that spend 200€ on a bass), not for an elite that can spend 4000€ on a bass.
I like the bass, but the subsidies politics is totally wrong if it does not have benefits for the ā€œcommon (wo)menā€ … I want socialism back ^^

Also: I’m incapable at practical work, usually. But it really is a matter of patience, trial … and error. And a lot of fun.
I’m pretty sure that you can find some kind of holy shroud in Poland too

You’re not modding German basses.

Duh.

I would mod any bass … but if I would purchase a 4000€ bass (which I’m not gonna do) it better be perfect, so there’s no need to mod.

I would prefer the Spock to be:

  • short scale
  • two Humbuckers
  • 4 string
  • Better access to knobs. I find this a strange decision, from a usability point of view…

Hah - it would probably cost a lot more if it weren’t subsidised  Also the material could have other applications like the space program, or burying saviours .

I think a lot of the material for the basses is quite exclusive, hence the high prices - there was one article on the website about how they’re using 600-year-old wood from an old monastery for their basses! I’m not sure if it will affect the tone, but it would be good to have a bass as old as the Rolling Stones…

Oh yeah I think there’s a few around. However I can imagine the moral panic if I started playing rock and roll on a bass made from a holy relic

Hofner Ignition, my friend…
