Bass Porn

Is this real? It has six tuning keys.

It’s real as a donut.

Strange things abound. Not necessarily a bass, but this viola somehow morphed from being a 4-string to
this.

I don’t think these are all tuning keys. The ones to the left can be turned sideways and define a new bass/root tuning/note on that long string. A bit like the Kubicki Factor

The visible wood on the left isn’t tuning keys, they’re stops similar to a capo for the fingerboard extension. The extension is an alternative to a 5 string to get access to another 4th lower, and that’s why the E? string runs all the way over the head.

It’s pretty but if be terrified of that horizontal epoxy joint under pressure.

Do you mean the bridge screwing into it? Appears to a neck-thru so should be ok. Is that what you are referring to?

No I mean the horizontal line of epoxy between the neck and pickup. I mean maybe “it’s stronger than the wood” but there has to be a seam somewhere in there

Looks like it’s neck through and the only thing glued together is the fingerboard onto the neck.

Oh now I see it’s just a strip. I thought it was all the way at first

Epoxy resin is extremely strong. It has been used on countless solid body builds, including being the entire front-to-back material.

As @MikeC said; Including this $25k Alembic

I actually quite like this, although too many knobs for what looks like a single coil pu.

As @Wombat-metal noticed first in the Specs:

1Vol, 1Tone, 3 Band EQ

What is the point of a 3-band EQ and a tone knob? Seems to open the door for a lot of wrong choices

Active/Passive I’m guessing. It also has two switches

My Jabbas’ tone knob works in both passive and active modes.

This allows for the specific 3-band preamp settings I want to remain where I set them plus allowing me to quickly modify the bass’s overall tone further if I want, via the tone knob.

I believe your Jabbas work the same way, no?

Dug a little more and found the below for another Bass is by Xotic Guitars in Cali, they’re MIJ though.

CONTROL: 1Vol, 1Tone, 3-Band EQ Trilgic2 Bass Preamp
(Mid/Bright SW, Output Gain Control)

SWITCH: Pull Volume For Passive/Active

PREAMP: Tri-logic 2 Bass Preamp
Three Band EQ (high, mid, low) boost & cut. Center position produces flat, unaltered sound, with no added tonal coloration.

  • Mini Toggle Switch - Use the Switch closer to the headstock to switch the mid-frequencies (400Hz/800Hz), and the other Switch to switch the treble-frequencies (6Hz/12kHz).
  • Pre-set gain control to boost gain by one to three times (located in back panel for easy access).
  • 18V drive is for more headroom, which allows incoming signals to pass through cleanly, without clipping the high-end or low-end frequencies. (Requires two 9V batteries)

Tri-logic 2 Bass Preamp Frequency Specification

SW1 (Mid Switch): UP/DOWN - 400Hz / 800Hz - ±12dB
SW2 (Bright Switch): UP/DOWN - 6KHz / 12K - ±18dB
