Just posted this one in GAS, but: Bacchus Handmade Woodline ā€œAutumn Leavesā€

https://bacchus-guitar.com/bacchusguitars/bass/woodline/woodline417ac-al-mf18

Most of their Handmade line are in the $2-3k+ range domestically, I am guessing this one is more, don’t see it on their local page, but they do say:

ā€œPricing category: High-endā€

I bet

Some exorcism might be needed here soon!!

Oh, you know I like that. Might be the best Jazz bass I have seen.
I can’t be 100% sure, but in the photo, it looks like all black hardware too, which I love, but that could just be shadows. I have seen other basses, thinking they had black hardware, but looking at more pictures you see its not.

May the power of price compel you.

Looks black to me in the other pictures too.

Figured you would like this one

Never seen or heard of these but they look like a dream. That’s quiet the unique bass, epecially fretboard & headstock!

The headstock reminds me of an ancient Asian stringed instrument. Like a Koto or something similar. Very cool bass. Not sure I’ve seen pickups like that either. Glad I got to check it out!

Damn good job on pulling out a Fender bass I’ve never seen in my life before. Is it Vintage?

Looks awesome, I agree with all your points on not preferring gold hardware & knobs on my basses too but it definitely works with this one.

Sounds right and in line with their other prices. Not bad considering they only made 18 of them

No, it was built by the person in the offer up ad, who is now a Member of our forum, @Al1885 . All those Stingray photo’s and that one with the trippy headstock above is also his.

He has awesome instruments in his garage, and he loves to mod them and make them unique.
I am going to be purchasing that Pete Wentz Signature Squire from him shortly. Just need to get a ride to pick it up.
I really dig this one, even tho Black and Red are not my most favorite colors on a bass, I sure like @PamPurrs and @John_E 's Frank Bello ESP LTD FB-J4 jazz bass, and this P bass I think rivals it in the coolness factor.

I have never had, and can’t even recall ever playing a P bass, and I decided I wanted one a few months back, and knew it would be my next purchase.
This popped up a few days ago, along with that Gold / Gold P bass that Al built from purchased parts.
I sent him a message about the gold one, just to compliment how awesome and unique it was.
We struck up a conversation, got along, Bass Buzz now has a new member, and I will be getting that P bass.
Win / Win / Win IMO

Hell yeah! That’s badass man, I really like those posts too. They truly are unique, can’t say I’ve seen basses like it. Also P-Basses are great & versatile. I learned on one.

I have not played on one, but after talking with @Al1885 about the ramps, they sound like a great thing to use, especially for my playing style.
He said once you start to use them (finger style), you don’t want to go back to not using them.

Now, I can fully see this. I personally love playing on top of my MM Stingray Pick up, but don’t like to, or get to when recording because of the unwanted percussive strikes and extra clacking sound (from pick up magnet, not from frets or neck).

I do sort of anchor my thumb on the pick up, but in front of it and rest NEXT to the pick up, with my thumb bad slightly under the E string, touching it for muting when I want to, which adds as a double mute for the E string, both when playing it, and when playing on the A string.
But, if I had a smaller ramp, maybe 1.5" wide, in front of the pick up, and rested my thumb in front of and up to it, and played on top of the RAMP instead of the Pickup, I could get the same feel, which helps with a more even stroke, instead of over playing a string on some strikes, but I would stop the extra noises that I wish to eliminate.

I can also see this wedged between a neck and bridge pick up, which is actually the first way I ever saw one advertised on Reverb.

The Purple one on that Gold bass is held in by a Pick Guard screw, so I am not certain how it would best fit on a Stingray, but I intend to find out, or make one myself and give it a try.

The reasons of course were stated above in John E’s post, but again are

My main thing is for speed and getting a more even ALTERNATE PLUCK going, and give my compressor a break
Not that I would ditch a compressor, just saying.

I don’t see the benefit for Pick players, and obviously not for slap, but on a Stingray with one pick up, there is plenty of room for slapping even when there is a ramp on it, if it is not too wide.

I’m thinking about giving that bass a little twin jazz sister with similar built components but with the gold lollipop tuners.

Which reminds me I’m about to pull a trigger on a rant thread. I hope no one here works for Hipshot’s or best bass gear. Lol.
