Bass Porn

The Ray4 has 1.50” width at the neck same as jazz bass. Wait till you play something fatter like p bass at 1.62 or the Ray34 at I.67.

There’s much to like about playing big fat neck sometimes :relaxed:

I agree. In fact I bought a Ray4 in satin blue. It was a beautiful bass and I loved almost everything about it.

However, back she went because I had a hard time switching over from my p-clone that is 1.65"

I looked for one of these with nice burl like that for a long time, and there were none to be found. The only nice ones I’ve ever seen is the one in this picture, and the one Marcelo Feldman (The Bass Wizard) has.

Saw the blue/purple burl one at my local guitar center, and again, looked nothing like the picture.

Ritters are gorgeous to look at but I would not want to own one, I would be terrified to touch it.

I don’t know if too many will consider this Bass Porn but I like it.

Pretty amazing they actually put a fender logo on it. Do you know who manufactured it? I had thought all of them rolled with their own logos on Fender and Gibson shaped headstocks.

Or do you mean that’s a MIA Fender made during the lawsuit era?

I really couldn’t tell you. There isn’t much info but the price. It’s up for sale on a FB Marketplace for USD $150. Here you can actually buy the brand stickers without any problem. I’ve seen a few basses where it is impossible that a 50 year old bass has all the corresponding wear but a perfect brand name.

Love the color. Pickguard would look better just white maybe? I really like the pastel Fenders with white pickguards, they look like creamsicles

Yeah, that was what got me. I had thinner profile Ibanez SR necks, but I liked the same Narrow (1.5 nut width) neck, but preferred the slightly thicker profile neck. This was the thing that sealed the deal for me and the Ray4.
When I got the Ray34, I knew something felt different, but it took a little while for me to realize the necks were quite a bit different.
At first, I didn’t like it so much. I think that was being less experienced of a player. Now that I have more experience, I still love the Ray4 neck, which is properly called by MM a Sterling neck, or a SLO (San Luis Obispo) neck.
I know the width is the same as Jazz necks, but I am not 100% sure if the profile is the exact same.
My new P bass has a proper Jazz neck on it. A Squire Jazz, not a Fender jazz.
I think the Jazz necks have changed over the years with modern profiles, and there may be different ones to choose from, but I am not all that up on Fender / Squire necks, other then to commonly refer to necks with 1.5" as Jazz and larger 1.625 to 1.75 as P necks.
BUT
The Squire Jazz neck feels slightly different then my Ray4 Sterling / SLO neck, so it leads me to believe that the profile is slightly different. That said, it does not feel much different, and it may just be my perception because the bass is lighter and feels totally different altogether?
I may have to look it up to be sure.

Yeah, the pictures are OK, not my favorite, but for sure, in person, I did not like the black one. I never saw a Blue one in person, but I still don’t really care for that design anyhow, so I doubt it would sway me in person.

I love that one in the middle. I love the Strat style pick ups and whammy bar in particular. The upper horn is very Carl Martin / Pachyderm / Les Claypool’ish

Yeah, scratch that idea.

I like it ALOT more with the black pickguard vs. the clear one.

Me too! It came with the transparent one but at the store I got a new black to replace it.
It’s one of the big characteristics of StingRays, I want to make it noticeable.

However, I’m selling this one and getting a new EBMM Stingray Special that is still shipping from the US.
CAN’T WAIT FOR IT!

Yeah, thats the same thing I said a few posts up, that I didn’t like that color / pattern with the clear pickguard, and a few days ago said that the pickguard is a must for the distinctive stingray look. I love that teardrop.

I am sure you will love it.
I am going to be interested in what you think of between the two.

I have not actually played a Stingray Special (post 2018) OR a Ray34 (post 2018) like both of yours are.

I have a Ray34 from around 2012, and the differences are small, but the electronics are slightly different. In 2018, the Stingray upgraded to Stingray special, and got new pick up (neodymium) and new preamp.
The Ray34 was also updated, and they put the MM pick up and Preamp from the pre 2018 Stingrays in them.
So the Ray34 I have doesn’t actually have EBMM stingray electronics, although it is about 80% close, and too close for me to be able to tell.

I have a EBMM Stingray SLO Special from 2014. It has a SLO (jass size) neck, and EBMM electronics, and I can’t really tell much difference between the Ray34 and Stingray SLO Special.
Also, I tend to like my SBMM Ray4 with upgraded Aguilar pick up BEST.
That said, it is really close between the Ray4 and Stingray SLO Special. I had the Ray4 first, and fell in love with it first, so I think that is why I slightly favor it. Even so, I LOVE the Stingray SLO.
I had a Stingray 4 from 2004, and I didn’t care for it quite as much as the Ray34 and not nearly as much as my Stingray SLO or Ray4, although they are hard to compare due to age, hardware and electronics.
There was nothing wrong with the 2004, I just liked the Jazz necks on my Ray4 and SLO special much better, so they felt WAY better.
The Ray34 feels alot like that 2004 Stingray, but it felt a bit better, and I can just chalk that up to the previous owners of each instrument. The Ray34 was almost brand new when I got it last year, and the 2004 was defiantly in more USED condition.
My SLO special is also in USED condition more then the Ray4 and Ray34, but it is in EXCELLENT, near MINT, USED, where the 2004 was in GREAT USED, and you can tell when playing each side by side.

I will let you know once I have it.

I’ve been playing my Ray 34 for the last two years and thought about taking the next step towards and EBMM, the real thing.
I tried it at the store a few months ago and I just loved it, it’s been in my thoughts since.

OK!!

I have just picked up my new bass and is THE MOST AWESOME bass I have ever played in my life!!!

Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay Special

I’m loving every part of it… but the neck, oh my god the neck!! It’s so smooth, it fits perfectly and I love the width! It is gorgeous as well!
The sound, the tone, the pickup, the punch, the low end, the weight, THE LOOKS!

Well, I’m definitely in love! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Sharing some pics with you guys!
