Bass setup Video Index (and tips)

should be no difference

Agree with Howard: every string can be viewed separately…

I have several (4, 5) luthiers in walking distance around me and went to them all. Two of them were very happy to chat and I have spent hours with them, drinking bad coffee, while they were setting up and playing my old ESP LtD bass and explaining to me what they are doing. I learned a lot, but every luthier seems to approach things differently…
When I asked for costs, they were almost insulted, as they quite enjoyed their time. Needless to say that this was a great experience for me too!

Maybe you will have a similar experience?!

I have at best 2.
One I spoke to him already and he’s approachable… might eventually try your technique!

My technique: know nothing, don’t be ashamed of it … and be gracious for everything they say and do! Then they will ā€œadoptā€ you

Feedback: following your video, I did a setup of one bass today, and it’s actually very good! Now I have a straighter neck (that is: my bass has a straighter neck) and with some back and forth I could lower string action and prevent fret noises. So: quite happy here!

From my own limited experience. I rather use something that ā€œfeelsā€ a strings height rather than trying to ā€œseeā€ 5/64ā€ on a little measurer.

Lots of discussions out there on proper neck screw torque, or should I say, nebulous answers about screw torque.
