Bass setup Video Index (and tips)

should be no difference

Agree with Howard: every string can be viewed separately…

I have several (4, 5) luthiers in walking distance around me and went to them all. Two of them were very happy to chat and I have spent hours with them, drinking bad coffee, while they were setting up and playing my old ESP LtD bass and explaining to me what they are doing. I learned a lot, but every luthier seems to approach things differently…
When I asked for costs, they were almost insulted, as they quite enjoyed their time. Needless to say that this was a great experience for me too!

Maybe you will have a similar experience?!

I have at best 2.
One I spoke to him already and he’s approachable… might eventually try your technique!

My technique: know nothing, don’t be ashamed of it … and be gracious for everything they say and do! Then they will “adopt” you

Feedback: following your video, I did a setup of one bass today, and it’s actually very good! Now I have a straighter neck (that is: my bass has a straighter neck) and with some back and forth I could lower string action and prevent fret noises. So: quite happy here!

an excellent new setup video from StewMac. really like the explanations on this video in terms of feel & sound vs. some others i have watched.

From my own limited experience. I rather use something that “feels” a strings height rather than trying to “see” 5/64” on a little measurer.

Lots of discussions out there on proper neck screw torque, or should I say, nebulous answers about screw torque.

EDIT: Removed double post of meme

Diggin’ the first Sadowsky video; “…typically you will adjust the truss twice per year, it’s not really the temperature, it’s the humidity”
and, “if your truss is off, you will also have intonation issues on your upper frets..”

I am getting this in spades playing F Major in Module 8 lesson 4.

Yeah I need to tweak mine every couple months. Bass setup is not a one and done thing
