I mean to be honest there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that setup for most stuff.

That Harley Benton thing is ugly. YMMV obviously.

My suggestion would be to play around with a multi effects unit you like to change the sound and stick with the bass you have if you like it :man_shrugging:

Correct, there’s also cuneiform and hieroglyphs but none of them are alphabets. With the alphabet, each sound is represented by a letter and you can build the entire language off of those letters. Very simple and easy to learn system. Chinese, Korean, and Japanese writing systems all require thousands of characters to accomplish that.

Technically Aurabesh doesn’t sound like anything. Aurabesh is a written language. The spoken one is called “Basic”

Sorry, that is not true. Chinese yes. In Japan they have 3 writing systems. Kanji is characters. Hirigana and Katakana are both phonetic. In Korea, Hangul is a system where each letter represents a phonetic sound.

They both started with Chinese characters but simplified and turned it phonetic.

And how do they construct words?

How many characters make up their writing system?

I’ll hang up now and let you answer, thanks. The Phoenician alphabet is simply better in every way.

I love Japan to death and all but the writing systems here (there are actually four) are not its strong point to say the least

There are 46 letters in Hiragana, 48 in Katakana

How many to make a word? ベビーメタル is Babymetal.

Hangul has 24 letters, 14 consonants and 10 vowels

Korean Alphabet A to Z: Complete Guide to Hangul's Usage

Other east Asian languages, like Cambodian and Thai, have alphabets with roots back to Phoenicia. I’m not saying Phoenician isn’t superior in any way, clearly it’s legacy is widespread. It’s just not the only one

… and no Japanese person uses them to spell out all the words. Only students of Japanese do this.

Katakana is used for foreign words and emphasis. Hiragana is used for parts of words in conjunction with the 2200 Joyo kanji, and for syllabic descriptions of kanji. It’s only used as the primary alphabet in elementary Japanese texts and very young childrens books.

And then there’s Romaji. Which actually has multiple romanization strategies.

@faydout is basically correct, it’s not ideal.

So damn good

How was I so misunderstood? I never said or hinted that the other systems are better.

All I said was alphabets were invented several times

I love to wake up in the morning and read how a BassBuzz thread derailed completely, while I was asleep and dreamed of swimming with sharks and nice bikini girls at the beach

Thanks for posting this, my curiosity really wanted to know the purpose behind the design  I hate that the longer you look at these things the cooler they get :expressionless_face: when starting to learn bass I hated the look of music man basses with the round pick guard because it looks like an egg but now (after hearing nice music played on them) I start to like them too. Cheers to another hobby with potential to get VERY pricey :money_with_wings:

I used a great trick to keep me from buying the Harley Benton MSB-5 ESP: it’s only 299€, so very cheap. So my trick is that I focus on wanting another bass (Reverend Lil LinhBacker Bass), which is 1199€. Nothing I would buy spontaneously. Also my girlfriend would give me a hard time about this.
This will surely keep me from buying another bass. Problem solved

I’m biased with harley benton. The ovation style semiacoustic bass seems to be very ok (except not perfect intonation) but the harley benton electric violin was not usable out of the box. Also my boyfriend is very anti consumerism so I’m pressured to find THE BASS now, as I’m supposed to only have one

The accoustic one was super cheap second hand but I’m a night owl so I need something that can be played more quietly. So currently my music corner is stacked with 3 basses (2 loaned for testing), 2 violins and 1 acoustic guitar project

We are also very anti-consumerism!
So we tend to NOT buy a lot of stuff, and try to be as cheap as possible (we don’t care about brand nor image) and rather repair/mod/upgrade stuff. It’s more fun and makes things your own.

I’m reluctant to buy 2nd hand stuff though.

Currently, I’m selling quite a lot of stuff, which is mostly in near mint condition … but when I compare my stuff to the “competion”, I see a lot of really (ab)used and/or defective rubbish and even worse: people lying about the state of the object they want to sell.

So, I don’t trust the 2nd hand market here…
