100% on that. Keep playing it. One day you’ll find yourself playing it and laughing about how much trouble it was to get it. I promise you it’s there, you’ll find it.
we should get I survived the Billie Jean slow workout shirts
I have a printing press. I can make this happen! lol
Do it! Then do some BassBuzz shirts. We need ‘em.
Yes! Something like
"Billie Jean 60BPM … NAILED IT! "
Nice.
On or about March 10, 2023, Billie Jean Fast Workout kicked my ass.
Today, April 3, 2023, while finishing up Module 12, I finally played through the workout well-enough to declare victory.
The stuff that worked for me:
- Incorporating the Medium Workout into my regular practice regimen.
- Giving up on my ring finger and switching to the pinky roll. The ring finger reminded me of the Three Stooges all trying to go through a door at the same time. Simplifying with the pinky roll was as effective as Moe snarling “Spread out!”
- A few nights ago I dreamed about playing that damn exercise all night. I think that was the turning point.
- I’m no longer conscious of what my fingers are doing. They are doing it themselves. I just need to keep them on track. (And I love that feeling.)
I hope Josh doesn’t replace this exercise with something else in future B2B versions. It’s tough but it’s worthwhile.
Add me to the pre-order list of any upcoming t-shirts.
I have dreamed that bass line too!
Congratulations on getting through it.
Hey @eric.kiser! It just clicked with me that you started this topic. And the Alumni topic for new graduates. And the Index topic for easily finding all things Bass Buzz. As a beginner who is proudly anti-GAS, I appreciate your focus and efforts on topics that are relevant to those of us still going through the Bass Buzz course.
Yep, that’s me. I’ve been around here for a long time. I’m glad you find all that helpful.
I just realized I’m coming up on four years with BassBuzz.
Go go class of 2019
Remember the video I linked last year? Sadly it is no longer available.
Here is more. They explain here how bass was doubled by MiniMoog. So it looks like there is no octave played on the bass itself.
But there is more layers to the sound there Super interesting to watch!
Enjoy…
This morning I sat down and slayed the beast! (7.20.23)
I want badly to check off the Super Badass list and had a trio of workouts that were incomplete. BJ being on that list.
I was struggling getting through the 2nd loop on the Fast Workout where my pinky would tense up and I would start bungling the notes. This morning I sat down for a short attempt before work and I was finally able to make it through both loops!
I really focused on having a super light touch and I think that allowed me to make it! Now all I have left to be a Super Badass is Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag!
Let’s gooooooooo
You can doo eeeeeet!
Yeah! That’s the stuff! Soon You’ll be walking around the house playing it but playing it with the octave and you’ll wonder why you ever fought it so hard. Good on you!
As you can see on the video posed above - there was no octave played on bass.
Those octaves are added on synth.
It is an interesting exercise to play it with octave, though.
Right? It was such an eye-opening day when that clicked for me. I think we should throw a party anytime anyone tames Billie Jean
Well, I’m back for round 2 of B2B; I was cocky, thought I’d have no trouble this time around.
I was wrong. She’s got me again.
Slow it down. Slow it way down. Then Slow it down some more. I’ve never heard of anything else working. You’ll bring it back.
