Buildiing a pedal board

I’m still trying to figure this pedal shit out. I don’t have any yet since I only started a few months ago but it seems confusing lol.

Sound goes in one side, comes out the other, after each one changes it depending on the effect, in order

But yeah. Loooooots of combinations there. And lots of different effects to learn. It’s a rabbit hole.

LoL! That’s a tough spot. Which pedal goes first?

Compression always goes first.
Octaver always goes first.
Fuzz always goes first.
Envelope Filter always goes first.

But what about the Tuner?
Okay that can go first. But… it might affect the tone of your Fuzz.

Pedals can be maddening. Follow your ear. If something sounds off, try switching the order.

Welcome to the rabbit hole. There’s a warren down here.

Ok I do have opinions here

Here is the order I would roll:

Tuner first (always, especially if buffered)
Compression
Octavers
Volume effects (volume fader pedal, noise gate, gain pedals, maybe a preamp with EQ, etc)
Filters (Envelope, Wah, etc)
Overdrive/Distortion
Modulation effects (Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, etc)
Reverb
Mute Switch (if you want)
Preamp/EQ/DI out - good place for amp/cab sim too if on a pedal

You can move things around in there but that’s where I would put things 99% of the time. Overdrive/Distortion into Modulation, in that order, with reverb dead last before EQ and DI out are the most important for me.

Not just the order but all the options. Trying to figure this out would probably give me a seizure

Looks like Tom Morello’s pedalboard

It looks like it has two Boss TU-3 at the start

Redundancy maybe

Oh I think it’s the line selector from Boss. It has knobs on top.

Pretty sweet! They also made a signature wah pedal based on his pedalboard. If it wasn’t that damn expensive I would have bought it.

ahh yeah maybe

So what would be the suggestions for the 4 or 5 main pedals to start off with?

tuner, compressor, distortion, chorus, and preamp/EQ would be my recommendation

Or better, until you understand effects, a multieffector like a Zoom B1four or B2four. These are the best way to learn about effects chains and are super useful for practice as well.

@swiens you’ll find a lot of love for the cheap but super powerful Zoom B1four.

$100 USD gets you a built in tuner, hundreds of different effects and most importantly a drum machine so you can work on your poor timing. How do I know it needs work? because we all need to work on our timing

links below which you may find interesting

Interesting, I’ll have to see if there’s anything local. The price is right.

The price is insanely good for what you get. You can spend $100 on a tuner pedal alone. It’s the best deal there is when you’re starting out.

Check used, can be had for half that in more populated areas (sorry @Barney)
