Can someone explain this

Ive got two 4 string Bass guitars, an Ibanez gio gsr200, and a Cort EVL-Z4B, both have a scale length of 34inches. Ive ran a tape measure over both, and everything to do with the fretboard is identical.
Why does the Cort feel like the fretboard is so much longer, i find the Ibanez a lot easier to play on the first to 3rd frets, which is a shame cause the Cort is so cool lol.

@mark_frewin it is more to do with the neck profile. Are the nut widths the same?

yep, they are both 40mm wide.

It’s the position of the strap buttons/length of the horns. Standing up and using a strap, the Gio’s headstock will be closer to you than the Cort’s. But sitting down, with the instruments resting on your right leg, it looks like the Cort would have the headstock closer to you.

it must be that, if my arms were an inch longer id be fine lol

You could also purchase a second strap, @mark_frewin . . .

Adjust the length of each strap to fit one of your basses, and then keep that strap attached to that particular bass. This is what I did for my two basses (a Fender and a Gibson with distinctly different lengths) and it works out perfectly.

Completely agree. I have 3 basses and 3 straps.

Agree with @Korrigan on this. The Ibby’s horn is much longer with the strap button almost in line with the 12th fret. The Cort’s strap button on it’s shorter horn is in line with about the 14th fret which will naturally move the headstock farther away when standing to play.

Keep on Thumpin’!
