Do I need a Compressor (and other pedal advice)

Its really a great pedal. It will never, or, be the last to go.

I’m looking at them on Reverb atm… I’m gonna end up pulling a @howard

It’s a fun one to learn.

Now I gotta figure out how to be cooler than you.

Ugh.

I’m not cool @John_E but I have learnt to genuinely not care what others think of me which makes everything so much easier

This is the way.

I had a search out of curiosity and I’ve found two of these for sale in the UK, one at Ā£875 (US$1159) and one at Ā£899 (US$1190).

Sounds about right. The bass version with the TX-L transformer usually is on the higher end.

As far as I can tell, the more expensive of the two (they’re being sold by the same seller) comes with a box

In sure you know @PaulD but that TX version is a huge pedal compared to their newer model.

I wouldn’t recommend it. The newer version does the same thing.

Also don’t dismiss cheaper compression pedals that are as good i.e.

I’m not going to, mate. I was just curious, that’s all. Besides, it’s only an extra Ā£100 to buy the amp that I’m really jonesing for.

The UA1176 is probably more than I’ll ever need and it’s only Ā£149. If I did decide to go little more expensive, the never version of the Cali is change out of Ā£350.

Yeah to be honest if you gave me that Universal Audio 1176 pedal I’d be perfectly happy.

The LED lights on the others ā€˜might’ be useful and worth the extra but I couldn’t say for sure?

I had a Caline Wine Cellar turn up in the post yesterday- haven’t had a chance to test it yet tho-I was replacing the right angle jacks on most of my cables with these:

I’m pretty sure @John_E advised a compressor with LEDs would be more useful as bass players wouldn’t then be relying solely on their ears. I thought there was a reason why the newer version of the Cali76 appealed, and now I remember why.

Still going for the PJB BG-450 first though.

I should hope so as it is the definitive 1176 and the Cali is an expensive clone

I love Origin’s stuff but just want to throw out there that you can get a real 1176 (i.e. the actual rackmount studio limiter) for about 3x the Origin pricing.

Yes @PaulD it’s giving you a visual cue but it hasn’t stopped me from finding the settings I like just by listening :man_shrugging:

Does it fit on a pedalboard?

You can hardly blame UA if your board is too girly-man to accomodate a 19ā€ 2U rack unit

I wasn’t refering to what you were looking at, just in general FYI. These older pedals are really a collectable thing and a mystique thing, agree with @Barney - no one needs one. I also have an Empress, love it too.

That’s fair enough. Maybe the UA1176 is more than enough for me. Actually, the resident GAS Enabler-in-Chief (@howard to his friends) said as much.
