Do I need a DAW to record?

I wrote an app that you can use for free online or download for a nominal fee. It is meant to be an aid for a beginner so may well be ideal for you. It includes a backing sequencer (so you can play along to a chord sequence), sampler, looper, tuner and chord diagrams for your chosen key and scale. It is fully setup to record using a microphone

I’ve not got around to writing the help files for it yet but there’s a short demo vid of it here. This was recorded using just my laptop. If you need to know anything please ask.

this is my first daw. and yes i have a lot on my plate as far as learning goes, but I didn’t just start on ableton. i’ve been learning it for probably about 4 months now, i do just a couple 5 minute lectures a day. kinda like BB :joy:

Looks really cool!!

i mean yes it’s a loud track, it’s kind of an electronic-y kind of piece. it’s not to my ears unlistenable or anything. i dunno, just preference i guess? i am just super impressed with this course, it’s equivalent to a college level course, but laid out in small easy to understand chunks. it’s not really the same thing as a youtube overview course, just like josh’s youtube offerings are great but not at all the same as BTB.

That’s interesting. I have downloaded that video and ran it through Audacity:

Here you can see the rise in volume at the end clearly too.
Strange, that you don’t have the issue!

I would have loved to follow that course. The guy seemed relaxed and knowledgeable, and cost-wise it was ok too.
But with the volume “scares”, it’s a nono!

Anyways, with the beginner’s course of Taetro I managed to understand the basics of Ableton. My plan is to create all keyboard and sample related stuff in Ableton and than move everything to Studio Pro to do the final mix.

It sounds a little complicated (and I guess it is), but I do appreciate the seamless integration of my AKAI MPK Mini IV in Ableton … and I am used to Studio Pro now.
Already created a remix with it and published it too, so…

As Howard wrote, it’s not free, but if you don’t upgrade and you’re lucky, it won’t limit you and it will remain free. I haven’t heard of Garageband being used on Windows.

Yeah actually even no luck involved, it just reminds you to pay.

Plus of course once you pay for a license you own that major release and the next one forever, period. It’s not a subscription. This will cover about five years of updates, historically. It’s one of the best upgrade policies out there, at one of the lowest prices.

Yes, but less as I don’t record as much these days.

I can’t really comment on any Focusrite gear since I never owned one, but from reviews on YouTube, the Gen 3 is better than Gen 4 in some tests.
