Do I need to setup again after changing strings?

Yeah whatever floats your boat. The culture I live in is way deeper in to conservation and avoidance of waste than any western culture.

Just buy new strings.

Never!!!

DISCLAIMER That said, I did buy new strings, of course. But for different reasons. It’s the Thomastik Infeld Jazz Flats, which I put on every (official) bass. They play smoothly and sound absolutely great. Also, they’re supposed to be very durable, so my green heart is happy.

I did clean all other strings with the ultrasonic cleaner, so I can give them away to the needy, or have some spares, just in case!

Yeah, I read that even school girl underwear is being recycled in Japan … and sold in vending machines for very high prices. You can’t be more sustainable than that, I agree!

seriously google “mottainai”

Very very cool!
I was thinking of organizing a local group that focusses on waste reduction by making it hipster-cool.

”Mottainai” would be an excellent name for that, thanks!

Also:

What a cool logo!

EDIT My girlfriend just told me about “Kintsugi”, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.

金継ぎ

She really wants to do that with some art objects we have and were broken due to both our clumsiness.

Japan can be quite cool!

That’s just what Big String would say

I did. I was referring to what I was doing with the old strings because I didn’t want to throw them away.

I have put on the DR Pure Blues and I love them. But they’re a bit pricey, nearly 40 Euros.

Ahh good

Yes I get the idea of not wanting to waste them. Recycling is also an option, metal recycling may be a good route. Also if there is a local Assassin’s Guild, these might make nice garrotes for them?

fwiw, D’Addario has a recycling program…

That seems like a great, eco-friendly route.

Yeah. And if there’s no local Assassins’ Guild, I can use them for self defense just in case I need to strangle someone. :joy:

It’s US-only, which is kind of ironic

They do have links on the above site to the following:

Ah, cool, thank you!

They should update the FAQ:

What countries is Playback available in?

Playback is currently only available in the U.S.

EDIT Nope, neither Blue Music Tools nor Warchal Strings recycle D’Addario strings. They do reyle their own though…

Well that’s too bad but at least the recycle their own.

 I read your reply first (“it’s US-only”) before I read what you were replying to, and I thought the Assassins’ Guild was US-only.

Does one need old strings to join the Guild? I haven’t changed mine yet.

Hahaha - no … though from the news I learn that it’s a powerful organisation over there

Me too; if they sound fine and hold tune, they stay.
