I have an Ibanez gio190 (PJ pups) with flats, which I have been learning for several months. I really like a Squier jazz bass affinity, but I don’t know if I should buy it I was thinking so I could explore with a classic model and go back to playing with roundwound strings
Well, having bass is an addiction . Considering that my Ibanez PJ and the Squier affinity jazz are from the same range, could the jazz bass provide something different in sound?
Short answer: yes.
Nothing sounds exactly like a Jazz. Or like a P. Or like a PJ (with the many pickup brand/voice choices available).
The best thing for you to do is to actually hold, play and listen to as many basses as you can find. Some will speak to you; some definitely will not. If any one makes you want to pick it up and play it, that is the bass for you.
What @MikeC said.
All the different pickup configuations have a different sound. I love the sound of a Jazz Bass.
So should you get a jazz? I like jazz, but the question is, who do you want to sound like? Band or player? What music do you listen to?
I’ve been playing for 1 month. Bought a P… I already want something new to try. I’m thinking a Stingray. Buy all the bases!
A StingRay is Leo Fender’s most evolutionary design. It’s also an extremely versatile sounding bass. Check this out:
I just want to learn and jam alone in My house. I learn mainly rock songs of different bands
If you are a beginner, No, one is more than enough. Wait til you learn a couple more songs and move up to intermediate’s level then you earn yourself another one.
I’m a proud one bass man. I’ve never played more than one bass at a time.
Why are you guys giggling
Al, you’ve never met a bass you didn’t marry.
Of course if you want to get better fast you would give yourself a positive reinforcement. In my case it’s just carrots. For every song I learn I get one bass.
Many songs later
You sure know a f*¢#load of songs, Al!
Oi! none of that- this isn’t Talkbass. com
There’s that “need” word again
I need to show this to my wife and explain the carrot thing. I’m sure that’ll work.
As long as she doesn’t call my wife its all good
DO I NEED TWO BASSES IF I AM A BEGINNER?
Yes, buy the second bass, and a third, and…
Thank you.
In all seriousness, consider second hand. That way, you can always move it on for what you bought it for and try something else. That’s what I do.
I showed my husband… said I only needed 3, surely that’s better right?
Oddly enough, he didn’t seem convinced…
I’ll keep working in him.
