I had a Jazz bass once that weighed over 12 pounds. I sold it pretty quickly.
My Peavey T-40 is 12 lbs!!!
I donāt mind itā¦yetā¦.but I am guessing it is not going to be the bass I play in the Lake Buena Vista Retirement Community
Mine was a Harley Benton. I might have kept a Peavey.

Pretty funny, @Barney
lol I remember my step-brother had one of those old Peavey basses. And some heavy af Peavey amp to go with it.
Meanwhile, this guy built a bass from an old wooden pallet XD
I think pallets are usually pine or some other cheap wood? ![]()
Itās not uncommon to find Les Paul guitars over 13 lbs
early fender basses made from ash are usually pretty heavy. I think my Sire M7 is around 10 lbs, I find it more of a āproblemā that my Affinity Jazz bass feels too light.
I often walk around all day with a 20+ pound bag of gear or hike with a 40+ pound pack so 12 lbs doesnāt seem that heavy ![]()

Yep. Pine. Young cheap pine.
Yep. Pine. Young cheap pine.
Iām not so sure about that.
Have you ever tried to pull the nails out of a pallet to reclaim the wood?
To me they seem to be rough hardwoods not soft pine.
Iām not so sure about that.
You are correct, and, so am I.
Oak and/or southern yellow pine as it turns out.

I want to build a barncaster some day if I ever come across some good old wood.

Thank you, @Koldunya . . .
Definitely a difference in tone . . . but the problem now is finding the right word(s) to accurately describe it: tighter, more brittle, sustain, superior sustain, etc. etc.
Cheers
Joe

I was going to cheekily suggest we spend the extra money on a thesaurus and dictionary, but those are basically free onlineā¦

I watched that earlier, actually. Well, thereās two of them, but Iāve seen both. I donāt remember which one that is off the top of my head.
