Explain this like I am five - Recording Bass on Computers

Ok… changes:

Bass Recording setup
Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen
Input 1: Shure MV7 Mic
Input 2: Bass
Monitor headphones: AKG K 240 MK 2
Output: Logitech Speakers
DAW: Reaper

Additional audio requirements:
Razer Blackshark v2 Pro Wired/Wireless
Motherboard output for the same Logitech speakers.

I am yet to test the top setup… as new cabling / headphones just arrived but I am working.

Suggestions on how to setup Reaper or Cakewalk for the “Bass recording” setup are welcome!

So you’re singing as well as playing bass?

No. I give webminars and classes on Leadership & performance in Sports / Esports.

EDIT: Actually Focusrite was bought for the Microphone… and eventually add a second in case I would host someone…

Got it. I was thinking maybe you were mixing a miked cabinet and DI signal.

Reaper with Headphones on Monitor is working like a charm.
Didn’t test speakers yet… I will

I recorded a bit yesterday the fast workout in Module 3(Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama)

There’s a weird additional “chamber like” echo that appears from Reaper output, that direct mornitor on Focusrite doesn’t have.

And there’s this annoying static / buzzing coming from the bass input… tried different cables… swapped with mic XLR and static/buzzing moves to former mic input. I have some annoying troubleshooting to do here.

Turn off Track Monitoring on the track in Reaper, it is echoing your bass back out to you a few milliseconds after you hear it in the direct monitor

Like I was 5?

I don’t think that’s it… but I’ll give anything(or almost anything) a go!

It won’t look exactly like mine because I have a UI skin applied, but somewhere in the track header you should have a little button to control Record Monitoring:

(the tooltip is from me mousing over the green icon in the top right by the track name)

It defaults to On. This will echo the input of that track back out to output when it’s played. This is super useful but interacts poorly with Direct Monitoring.
