Extra Basses got to go, wife is not happy

Yeah, the thing with P/J basses is that unlike J basses they cannot balance the J pickups as opposites to noise cancel, so the J can be noisy if you have a lot of environmental EMF noise in your home.

Noise-cancelling J’s are nice but I do not know of very many P/Js that ship with them stock, and there’s a lot of P/J models out there. So, calling it out in a review is just weird.

I hear you. I guess it was the timeline I jumped into Lobster’s channel. The info I got was informative and tight. What I liked the most was being able to hear what individual basses sounded like. That was really helpful. On top of that, Lobster used to play the same lines and riffs with many, many basses, which allowed me to hear how each responded given similar circumstances.

Running way top pick up is mostly the tone I’m often looking for on my j :jbass: :sunglasses:

I would bet the Sire Z7 bass is head and shoulders better made than a Sterling. I own both brands and I like the Sterling Ray shorty a lot. But Sires are a cut way above in my estimation.

I’ll dial the neck pu to max then a little back off, bridge is variable but not often over 50%, more often way less like 10-20%. :jbass: :sunglasses:

I believe it’s the string. I doubt that the pickup would chonk out just on the B string. I haven’t got a chance to swap it out yet I’ll do the before and after video.

Could be the string. Who knows? It’s definitely not a problem endemic to the bass itself.

Absolutely! Unbelievable price for what you get. Preamp bypass, 42mm nut width, and parallel wiring are just enough to be a no brainer. If it’s a 3x1 headstock Sterling will be out of business. the Ray24 is an abomination. I’m a flag flying music man first but even that is very hard to pass. When I see a good deal on one I’ll snag it.

The Z7 is probably more my speed.

Hey @Al1885, the 5 series of any Sire models is the sweet spot for me. It includes all of Sire”s premium features, such as hardware and electronics, of the most top end Sire models. The only things the 5 series doesn’t include that 7 and 10 series do are more exclusive top wood and finish option selections.

Bottom line, Sire 5s offer the absolute most bang for the buck of all sire offerings IMO, bar none. :+1:

Absolutely agree that’s one of the reason to choose the series. Especially for me, I’m not usually bother to use any preamp anyways. Sire’s highest end kinda lost its charm a bit because it’s now in the realm of thick competition of premium imports and not to mention the preowned domestics.

I totally agree. The most expensive Sire models are aimed at folks looking for bling, first and foremost.

The great news is that the series 5 models are great for any player looking for extreme value at a low price. The Sire series 5 models are designed for players looking for deep value in build, woods, electronics and great finishes, without having to pay an arm and a leg.

I actually like the Z7. Roasted maple neck so less to worry about shrinkage the natural one looks killer but the white one with ebony fingerboard is just so good looking HS is also the best MusicMan pickup configuration I’m my opinion. At $800 retail it’s just a great deal it surpasses the $1100 Ray34. If I go with the 5 string I’d have me cake and eat it too with the 4x1 tuners, :joy:

Absolutely. That Z7 config is a latter-day killer Sire. It sure is upping their game along with their new single-cut F10, the only fiver that’s ever made me go towards the GAS light. (I’ve fought it off so far, though.)

Go for a Z7, @Al1885! I can’t wait to see the pics and videos.

I will do that. As it sits prolly 1 quarter next year unless there’s a killer deal at the end of the year. I’ll be hooking up with @booker_t and taking the Bergatino and the Demeter as well as one of his Butterfly for a spin. I’d love to devote my free time for that. Most likely will result in me getting a Fodera myself. :joy:

I can definitely see a Yin Yang in your future. :star_struck:

Great to hear you’ll hook up with Booker in some bass badassness!

Paddy! Don’t forget to show him your Cutlass.

As the matter of fact he’ll be holding the cutlass as collateral :joy:

Man the purpleheart Yin Yang is such a nice looking bass. The attention to detail is pretty amazing, one of those cases where you are like “yeah, I can see $6200 for that.”

Oh man the last time I saw it on Sweetwater it was $4900
