I like Johnny Christ
Because he is my favourite bass player from a band called Avenged Sevenfold, and I like how he mixes with the guitar solos to make a great guitar solo
One Name for me
Bernard Edwards
Groove in spades
My three favorite bassists are…
- Francis
- Rocco
- Prestia
M. M.
Bakithi Kumalo is a South African bassist that just leaves me with my mouth hanging open! He’s primarily known as a fretless player and was featured on Paul Simon’s album “Graceland”. Notably present on “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” and “You Can Call Me Al.” Just an absolute beast!
John Kahn- The Bassist for most of Jerry Garcia’s side projects. Outside of The dead, hes the musician Jerry played with the most, by a long margin. Dude was just as comfortable on upright as he was on electric. More “in the pocket” than Phil Lesh but just as creative.
Hear him carry the water on this on.
Phil Lesh- what not to love? No father to his style. Great human
Travis Book- upright bassist from The Infamous Stringdusters. The Dusters are probably the tightest bluegrass act going. Plus he has absolute pipes when it comes to vocals.
Imagine covering a band that was famous for 2 drummers with no drummer at all and still be epic.
Sam Grisman, David “dawg” Grismans son. He out there keeping dawg music alive.
Oteil Burbrage
Imagine being able to tell your grand kids that you are the bassist for the dead and the allmen brothers at the same time. That’s goat status alone. Add in the work he does teaching = A real life gem.
I love Trevor Bolder, Phil Spalding, and of course James Jamerson, Bootsy Collins, Carol Kaye and Bernie Edwards. And Rick James. And Rutger Gunnarsson. And Tina Weymouth, John McVie, Cliff Burton, Ian Hill, Phil Lynnot, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Leland Sklar and (yes) Maurice Gibb. And not to forget Falco. There are many, I see…
Erm, was I supposed to only name one???
Any bassist in King Crimson playing lines Robert Fripp probably wrote, so maybe it should be Robert Fripp… until Tony Levin which adds him to the list. After that it would be Ron Carter, Dave Holland, Michael Henderson and Linley Marthe. Oh… and that Jaco guy. Any bassist good enough to play with either Fripp, Miles or Zawinul would be as good as it gets.
Does anyone have a fav bassist?
Check out this thread.
Now, I am stuck in a loop ![]()
Ha!
I was hoping I could just cruise right through my hack-n-slash thread rearrange. Ya got me!
To pull things back together for this thread:
I really like PUP as a band. Really love the bass playing (Nestor Chumak)
The bass melody behind the 3rd line of the chorus on this song makes me so damn happy. It’s a perfect bass hook. (Happens for the first time at 1:01, so you know what I’m all excited about.)
Favorite bassist? No, I can’t really do favorites (or favourites).
But damn good bassing right here:
