Finding messed up gear

Don’t get me started on FB’s “privacy” policy, the thread will get completely derailed in no time :joy: I do use it though 99% for the Marketplace, that’s where I’ve bought (and subsequently sold) a bunch of my current and former film cameras. Worth a shot.

P.S: no idea about the “crotch walnut” either , maybe @howard can help us, presumably they meant something different in Japanese?

Yeah I quit FB in 2016 or so so I wasn’t aware Marketplace was good for basses. Really dislike FB though.

I’ve never really do Facebook. I tried it and created a few profiles so I can use it to log in to my games and that’s pretty much what I do. The Marketplace is hit and miss. Some are great deals but most are just terrible. My limited experience with BookFace led me to the understanding that your one security is the user profile, as you can see how long they have been on and help determine how trustworthy they are.

I quit in 2017, but my little girl (who’s 28 btw and omg does she have my exact personality as she’s getting older) asked me to come back because it’s easier for her to keep in touch and send pics of the grand mini me. I have never been good at telling that one no in the first place (and she knows this), then you throw in grandson pics and I reactivated my FB account 2 years ago.

Well, that’s how I have my collection of basses started. I was bored and had a lot of free time during lockdown. I’ve been buying some squiers, strats, P bass and Jazz bass and did some mods and setups.

My advice is to get a popular and widely available used instruments. Fender/ Squier is the brand for me. It’s easy to find components that fits, they are like legos. I started with a few basses and now after buy and sell many and trade some, I have a few more nicer ones.

OfferUp is my go to portal, cash no tax no shipping and most of the time negotiable. Most other portals involve shipping cost, which is not always a good deal.

In Japanese they literally called it “Crotch Walnut”

Then they explained it’s called that because it’s taken from where a branch of the tree meets the trunk.

Same here

Another one for Facebook Marketplace, and sometimes eBay.

My best score was a Schecter bass that I picked up for £50, cleaned up, sorted out the dodgy electronics and restrung, then sold for £300.

My Dingwall was secured on eBay for significantly under what I’d seen them elsewhere for. The guy has missed the title … I swooped.

The classic thing is to think about common misspellings and search for them…

“Crotch walnut” is a pretty imaginative way of describing the place where the branch meets the trunk

Very… evocative. I dare them to do it on the sakura models

I’ve never heard it used that way either, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t correct:

@howard is it pronounced “clotch warnut” cause if so that might be a pretty badass J-death metal band name

no

I also love how at this stage of the game my 44 yo self is chuckling like Beavis and my 11 yo kid is like, “dad you are embarrassing the family”

Yes as is usual in most things, it’s best to blame the British (even if they are innocent and its a USism)
