Hello, it’s been a month now since I’ve been able to play.
Health concerns which create pain in my arm including really painful neuralgia.
I’m super frustrated, I felt really good about the start of my learning. I’m having an MRI on 05/13, we’ll see more clearly at that time.
Have any of you ever had to deal with this?
How do you stay connected to the instrument?
Good day.
Can be a good time to read up on music theory. Or visualize your fretboard. I still haven’t memorized the fretboard so you could use a random note generator and look at the fretboard to find the notes. If you can use pen and paper - I like to layout scales on graph paper to follow scales using graph paper for the frets. Lots of other ideas if you google “how to play bass without your bass guitar”. Good time to listen to your favorite baselines and make a list for learning later.
I have had to deal with this. I tore a ligament in my left wrist that holds the bones together. I was unable to fret for the longest. First it took forever to figure out what was going on.
The first thing I did was get a left handed bass (my Sadowsky) and start playing on that. Then I figured out there is much less stress if I play short scale so that’s what I do now.
I almost went into pedal bass midi controller to play with my feet
I’m not sure if this applies, but when I tried using one those cheap 2” straps, my fretting hand would go numb and I would have pain. When I changed to a padded 3.5” stap, the problem was solved.
Good luck. I hope you find a resolution that keeps you playing.
It’s so frustrating when your gear or software just cuts out mid-session, so knowing that it might be down to a specific power setting or a background update really helps narrow it down. This definitely saves a lot of troubleshooting time.
Thank you for your feedback, I will try to apply all of this and good luck to those who also have to deal with a failing body!
