this is exactly how I think of it
thank you for justifying my completely unnecessary purchase.
my only issue/concern is that, as a long time casual PC gamer, i am very dialed into WASD keyboard and mouse gaming, and the one time i had an xbox i really did not like using a controller. but i think i would much prefer handheld and/or docked-to-my-tv gaming with a steam deck vs going to my work desk and booting up my PC to game. so i will just have to get used to controller gaming, which in theory i like as its JUST games, not the same keyboard i use for work.
now to just try and catch it when they stock a refurb 512GB OLED.
I love my handheld (not a Steam Deck though) so much. It’s just the perfect form factor. It’s great for traveling, you can play in bed, you can hook it up to a monitor when you feel like it, I even use it as my daily driver for like household PC stuff. It’s amazing, I do not regret the purchase in any way. I’ve thought about upgrading in the same line. I especially like that the ROG (not sure about the Steam Deck) has built in gyro. It makes shooters much more comfortable. I’m pretty loathe to play without it at this point.
Man those two joy sticks make me think Mech Warrior Online there…
I am literally playing through MW5 right now ![]()
Just stay away from LoL in this case
If only playing MWO with sticks weren’t a serious handicap… I did spend entirely too much time playing MechWarrior Online. You can’t see it behind the other windows, but my desktop wallpapers are all BattleTech stuff, mostly MWO concept or promo art for most of my favorite mechs.
I’ve started but not gotten very far into MW5:Clans.
I am wearing a Free Worlds League t-shirt right now
Haha. I have a House Marik banner just out of frame in the desk pic.
The FWLW teamspeak was what got me past the beginner frustration of MWO.
I also have a FRR Royal KungsArmee one too. In fact over the last week I have been playing through MW5: Rise of Rasalhague.
tried and returned the steam deck - was not the right feel for me, i think the kinds of games i want to play via steam tend to be FPS and those are a pain on a handheld.
but i found out something cool: turns out you can play retro games completely for free on apple tv - you just need to install retroarch, download ROMS (easily available for free online) and get a bluetooth controller. if anyone is interested this video goes thru it all:
Funny… I sold my whole gaming setup to buy my bass rig ![]()
I have a similar setup with an old home server we use here. It’s chilling in the living room next to the TV and whenever we are bored we play anything from Nintendo to PSx classics.
I love the white look you have going! My rig is mainly for flight sims, and I have my PC next to it for other types of games. I set it up this way so i can have 1 PC and two stations, vs buying two PCs… so I’m glad you found my post inspiring!
I need to do a seperate thread of what exactly is in it, if anyone would be interested ![]()
