GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

I just ordered one of these used, less than 50% the cost of new, couldn’t pass it up

That’s the David Ellefson model? So you got it for $400? That’s a deal.

I seem to have the exact hand size where I can stretch one finger per fret to 34” scale and 35” throws me into micro shifting. Maybe someday with practice.

I microshift either way, so it might be why I adjusted so quickly to the 35s.

I “macroshift”. I can’t reach a darn thing on anything. Except the Hofner

In my experience, you have to commit to these things. 35" scale, 5 string, etc. Pick up the 35" scale, and play just that until your comfortable, and quicker than you think you are.

If I give myself the out of something easy, I don’t progress as quickly. That’s me at least.

I’m that way with my Ibanez Mikro

Nice little package here (if you are cool with your phone controlling everything).

I don’t know. I had an interesting adventure with Google and their spying attentiveness. I was driving to the cottage a year and a half ago with the fam jam, and I drove out of town with only a quarter tank of gas. This is southern Ontario, we have plenty of dinosaur squeezings bars. Anyhow, my youngest kept pestering me to stop and get gas, over and over as only a 6 year old can. So, about 30-40 miles out from home, on a local major road, Spyware Google Nav tells me to turn left, from a major road onto a dirt road, some 300 miles from my destination. We stopped, sent the kids into the bushes for a bio break, and checked the route to reposition. Jackboots Inc. Google took it upon itself to remap my route back to a Texas Tea distribution center some 10 miles behind us. Google the company then heard a few choice words from me spoken into the phone and hasn’t done it again. Oh, and at the time (as always) I had Google assistant turned off, as well as word-to-text.

After that long intro, I wouldn’t trust my phone to control my settings on the water usage of a toilet, let alone anything electronic.

Yeah, all this “helpful” technology isn’t helping ME out very much either, @MC-Canadastan . . . :frowning:

All this stuff with Google . . . constantly wants to know my location and allow notifications, auto correcting, suddenly dragging out old pics I took on my phone so that I can “remember” them etc. And don’t forget Alexa (or whatever “her” name is)

I’m so far behind in understanding any of this . . . I’m too embarrassed to say :worried:

I’ll get off my soapbox now, and slither back to lurking :snake:

Cheers
Joe

The little Nux amp I ended up with has the phone control thing going on too.
I must have a play around with it instead of doing things the old fashioned way :joy:

76 lbs of brass makes a LOT of saxes!

That’s not only a hefty bass but certainly a hefty price tag!

So, a little update on the Peavey Patriot.

My truss rod wrench came in the mail. I took off the old strings (cruuuuuuusty!). Lo and behold! The truss rod works without string tension. It was the same as my other Peavey, it was kept unadjusted under tension for years. So, I’ve cleaned it up, and I’m going to let the neck rest a bit before I restring it. I also have knobs on order. When it’s rested though and re-strung. Mmmmm mmm!

Overall, I made out like a bandit, $50 for a working US-made, mahogany Peavey bass.

My local craigslist drives me nucking futs… all these “clever” people that put $0 or $1 with the actual price in the ad. Why do they insist on this!? Is it due to some thought process that if people sort by low to high, it will put the add for their garbage first? Surprise! Half of f’ing Craigslist is doing this with you and it is still pages of crap :joy:

This is definitely anti-GAS :unamused:

I often just skip the “$1” ads because it is so often some huge price that makes me think of the #DelusionalCraigslist subreddit :joy: But you can’t really flag them for removal (all you can do now is “best of” them) or downvote them away…

I saw a video where a guy swapped the Jensen speakers out of a $100 (used) Behringer 4x12 guitar cab and it sounded really good (build quality was still sketchy lol). Anyway…

I started playing tonight with Positive Grid’s take on the Orange AD-200 and love it. F my wallet and back if I get into playing live :joy: (Line 6 does not have an Orange bass amp model in their Helix line that I saw). I’m aware Orange makes smol bass heads, too. In-fact, my first “custom” bass amp head in Bias Amp started as the AD-200 model and not Ampeg XD (I called it the Witchcraft Bomber and make it purple). Positive Grid does make amp heads you can load presets onto though…

Edit

Also, I’ll just leave this here…
