In case no one has mentioned it yet, there is a Fender and Squier Labor Day sale, up to 50% off “Guitars, Basses, Amps & Gear.”

This includes two Squier left handed bass models: Classic Vibe '60s Precision Bass®, Left-Handed $122.50 off, and Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass®, Left-Handed, $40 off. They don’t offer the Classic Vibe '50s Precision bass in LH.

@eric.kiser I’m looking at the Sweetwater website. Where do these insane discounts come from? I’ve never seen something like this, not even on black Friday.

I want a Labor Day in Europe too!!

Overstock, slow sellers.
Loss leaders to get you to buy more.
Price increases that went too far so they back down prices as sales slow.
Etc etc

I used to have it and regret having sold it. I have the 60s CV now and it’s just not at the same level.

You have May Day, no? Stores just have to do sales on that day!

The U.S. also had May Day, in fact it apparently started in the U.S. From today’s Washington Post article about Labor Day:

There was already a holiday on the first of May with ancient origins — think flower crowns and maypoles — but national labor organizers did not have that in mind in 1884 when they set May 1, 1886, as a deadline for businesses to grant their workers an eight-hour workday. As the day approached, unions across the country prepared for a general strike. That day, somewhere between 300,000 and 500,000 workers struck nationwide.

In Chicago, the strikers tended to be more radical socialists and anarchists, and their protests continued after others had gone home. On May 3, police shot into a crowd of strikers, killing two. Outraged, people gathered at Haymarket Square the next day, and in the ensuing riot, 12 people were killed, eight of them police officers.

The next year, unions held a commemoration of the Haymarket events on May 1, and by 1889, the Second International — a worldwide conference of socialists — declared it International Workers Day, though it is mostly called May Day.

Both May Day and Labor Day were honored in the United States by various labor groups for years, though the former had a reputation for being more political, more radical and less merry than the latter. For that reason, Labor Day was always more popular with lawmakers, and more than 20 states had made it a state holiday by 1894.

@Paul A lot of places do substantial sales for Labor Day in the US.

These Aguilar pedals for $99 is pretty crazy though. Most of the time, they sell for twice that amount, used. Even if you don’t like them, you’ll be able to get more than $99 if you sell it later.

Yes! Candy. Apple. Red. :apple:

We have one: May 1st. But it’s a socialist/communist holiday, so none of that capitalist consumerism :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Anyway, it isn’t really observed in The Netherlands. Not like in, for instance, Belgium and Germany, where it’s a public holiday.

See above. Oh, and for the record: Liberation Day (May 5th) is only an official public holiday once every five years (unfortunately).
