@Koldunya your love for purple is quite infectious my custom short scale will have a purple burst. I don’t know how it’d turn out just yet but it should be pretty epic.

Yeah - HB + Jazz = not promising on the weight front

Ya was really hard not to just nab one for so cheap, but, restraint….

I gotta say that while normally I don’t like tort pickguards, on that bass I think it looks… kinda cool!

That said, my god but do I dislike the silver metal component cavity covers on jazz basses. I would love to see one where the pickguard just extended down and took over that space.

Oh, and I always dig the riffs the guy with the Abraham Lincoln beard plays.

I’m with you on that @JustTim I bought a black one for $10 which is an improvement, but yeah a full pick guard (like on a P Bass) would look better. IMHO.

That’s rad. I like that the control cavity cover matches the pickups which matches the bridge. It lets the pickguard be a bit more wild with all its flowers and the like.

Much better, IMHO, than the standard “black pickups, tort pickguard, silver bridge, silver control cavity cover”.

What do the tuners look like? Please tell me they’re black.

All the details here (Hipshot Ultralights). I just built it up from parts.

How have you been liking your jazz vs the P? I had a P first, and didn’t care for my jazz when I first aquired, but now I think I like the J better. I was thinking of reverbing the P since I havent been playing it as much.

Different feels, different sounds. Having a P and a Jazz covers most genre basses pretty well. At least for me.

I started with a J, and have gravitated more towards a P and P adjacent (PJ, double P). I was considering reverbing my lone J and @John_E said I would regret not having a J at some point, and I would say the same about a P

For me it’s not so much the tone but feel. Sometimes I just need wider spacing for the right vibe.

See? It always begins and ends with feel. :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed:

I play mostly humbuckers, but whenever J gets into the rotation, I think about how much I like it. I am not a big fan of 1.5" nuts either, I think it’s the sound I get when I roll off the bridge pickup and favor the front.

My P just isnt getting enough play, and I have the Pistolera coming which should replace the P if it plays as expected.

I’d have to look to make sure but out of the 16 (not including the unfinished Taxibacker) 3 have humbuckers (the T-Bird, the Gretsch and the Steinberger). The rest are all P, J or PJ…they’re all just different styles.

True enough. I stand corrected

In the light of recent video from Josh, I’ve some GAS updates.

Some of you might know I’ve been kind of MusicMan shill, and I’ve had many basses of all kinds in posession in these few years of playing.

My 2nd bass was SBMM Ray4, also after some time got myself Ray34, which I fell in love with that 43mm nut width, chonker neck, sound etc. But I’ve always wanted to get real thing, because it does have difference in sound. But it was always out of the budget for me.
So recently I fully upgraded Ray4 with 79 Stingray preamp, Ray34 bridge in addition to Aguilar AG4M. Sound was spectacular, but that neck. My goodness there was a time when there wasnt better neck, but after Ray34 I just couldnt stand it.

So I got a cunning plan on my mind. I’d start selling my Stingrays, and see where it leads.
I didn’t have much hope, cause people at my place are all about Squiers/Fenders and not willing to spend much on bass.

So first some teen came to me to check out Ray34. He tried upgraded Ray4, which at time I wasnt even selling, fell in love with it, and took it home. I got unexpectedly pretty good amount for it.
Then pain started, no one was interested in Ray34, I kept lowering price, till one day, dude contacted me, just said send it & voila. Both were sold.

So the time has come for my dream bass, my (I expect, if not I’ll force myself) forever love, since the days I first picked up the bass. Finally ordered it.

Found a great deal, at least for me, 999$.
Model is 1997, first gen 3 band eq, alnico pup, maple fretboard, oldschool bridge. All bullet points checked, it’s what I wanted from Stingray.
However it’s Made in Japan Stingray EX. For all that do not know, EBMM sent USA parts to Japan where they made necks and bodies, assembled and sold for local market from mid 90s to early 2000s.

It will require some work, as expected for this price.
It doesnt have pickguard. I already ordered multiple from Musiclily.
It will soon need refretting, I don’t mind. Few months of playability before is all I wanted.
I have luthier for all these things now.
Also it’s kinda “Road Worn”. Dents, warpaint and mojo comes for free
So I’m happy af.

So now after all these different basses I’m settling on 2 Fenders, P and Jazz.
And bass love of my life, real oldschool 3-band Stingray. The big three.

Updates will come once Stingray arrives.
@Al1885 Finally did it buddy!

7000th post yeah!

Congrats @Growl love the black on maple vibe with the flea bridge. I believe that EBMM had a mild case of FOMO and start making one in Japan but it was short lived.

Sorry gotta switch device. Hey don’t forget G&L, lol. It’s Leo’s final work and it’s pretty bad ass, lol.
