GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

Nice! That’s a bit more than the original price but cool they still have one.

Alas, I am good for basses now. But that is definitely high on my list of basses I want someday.

I almost bought one back when they where available. Very nice bass!

Now that’s how you pack a bass. Best packing job I have ever seen.

My new DI Box.
Nothing super funky, but I don’t know why I didn’t get one earlier.
It just ended my battle with a “hot” active pickup signal going into my DAI.

In other news, SR Premium turned out to be a bit of a disappointment and it goes back.

Just buy a P or Jazz Bass and accept that that’s where you’ll end up eventually

I have PJ already
I want something active J-like sub 4kg ideally with soapbar pickups (or something ultra-low noise).
I won’t buy Jazz Bass as I am allergic to noise.

They make noiseless j pickups you know

They do and that is exactly what I have in my PJ

Guess what? There is still noise. :man_shrugging:
So I never go more towards J than 50%P / 50%J.

There are truly noiseless J pups available.

Fender Noiseless pickups still make noise. EMGs are noiseless, and many brands (Duncan, Nordstrand, etc.) make truly noiseless pickups. My Jazz has a set of Apollo pickups which are linear humbuckers, split coils in single coil form which make no noise at all.

Fair point.
But then, why purchase something that you know upfront you’ll want to modify?
Besides, not everyone likes modding.

What J basses with factory-mounted “truly” noiseless pickups do you know?

I’ve been looking at Shecter J4 Exotic with EMGs. Also, Cort GB Modern 4 with Nordstrands.

Stop husslin and just get a Warwick. :smile_cat:

So do I but it just doesn’t sound like either. Close but it’s not the same to my ear.

Fixed it for you :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

And the bass ain’t bad either.

For myself, though, I’ve never seen the appeal of PJs. I love a P and a JJ, but the mix just doesn’t do it for me.

I like my PJ. It is P with additional pickup I don’t have to use it.
I do like the sound of 50/50 PJ, though.

MAIN reason for looking for a second instrument is weight and ergonomy. PJ is 4.2KG.
This is why I tried the Ibanez route. ~3.6kg + offset body + no noise
