GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

I don’t know how that could have happened though. They cnc the bodies with holes pre drilled. Fender must have the protocol for their production line. This many misalignment mistakes shouldn’t have happened.

I seriously thought it was a joke when I first read the Lobster post. I thought he found one and was exploiting it.

Nope, lots of vendors too. Here’s the pic from one here:

Here’s another, where it looks ok:

This one is in Canada, clearly offset, though not as bad as the first:

This is from Fender’s site:

It’s a thing. The QC sucks. These are all over the place.

Here’s one on Reverb that they dropped the price to me a couple hundred on

Better, but the placement is all over the place

My next GAS is still a mod shop p bass.

Yeah - the quality jump from Squier to MIJ is big, but from Squier to MIM, not so much. Barring the MIM-only signature models, maybe.

My next is a P/MM.

Yeah… the QC for those varies too. I had to return my first MIM Steve Harris P because of electronics issues, a stained neck and missing SH signature flats.

A lot also might depend on the shop. I have played a completely great MIM P-bass in a shop I trust for quality. Mail order, that’s just rolling the dice though.

Mine was through Long & McQuade, Canada’s biggest music retailer.

It was they who found the issues, and they who initiated the replacement. All on all not too bad for service. But then it was an $1800 CAD bass.

Same here.

Lol. Which one? They are supposed to be made (put together) in Corona CA which is about 20 minutes from me.

It’s not going to be an EBMM, so it won’t have an actual MM pup.

It will be a custom take on an MM-type pup, but with split coils, so it can be switched to be single coil, serial, or parallel.

If you are going custom mayo why not the Delano xtender p and quad they love to put them in.

So… I’m probably an outlier for sure, but I’ve had three Fender MIM instruments (Fender Deluxe Dimension, Fender Player Jazz, Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas) and two Fender MIA instruments (both Fender Deluxe Dimensions, one H, one HH). Aside of some shielding/grounding related e-buzz, the MIM instruments have stood toe-to-toe with the MIA instruments.

I had a Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH for a while, it was nowhere near the quality of the Fender MIM instruments.

Granted, that’s only one Squier, but I won’t get another. I’ll happily get another Fender MIM, though.

I may have a custom bass thing going on

We’ll see

Returned mine for exchange , truss rod but was solid! A lot of effort to even move it at all, never mind as much as needed :face_with_peeking_eye:
Melted insulation on the wiring (not a major issue, but not what you’d expect on a £400+ instrument either)
In the end, as nice as it felt to play, just wasn’t happy with it

They’ve used several third-party pups. But, as the video said, they are back to making their own, with their own signature engineering and tone. That’s what I’m going with.
