I don’t know how that could have happened though. They cnc the bodies with holes pre drilled. Fender must have the protocol for their production line. This many misalignment mistakes shouldn’t have happened.
I seriously thought it was a joke when I first read the Lobster post. I thought he found one and was exploiting it.
Yeah… the QC for those varies too. I had to return my first MIM Steve Harris P because of electronics issues, a stained neck and missing SH signature flats.
A lot also might depend on the shop. I have played a completely great MIM P-bass in a shop I trust for quality. Mail order, that’s just rolling the dice though.
So… I’m probably an outlier for sure, but I’ve had three Fender MIM instruments (Fender Deluxe Dimension, Fender Player Jazz, Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas) and two Fender MIA instruments (both Fender Deluxe Dimensions, one H, one HH). Aside of some shielding/grounding related e-buzz, the MIM instruments have stood toe-to-toe with the MIA instruments.
I had a Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH for a while, it was nowhere near the quality of the Fender MIM instruments.
Granted, that’s only one Squier, but I won’t get another. I’ll happily get another Fender MIM, though.
Returned mine for exchange , truss rod but was solid! A lot of effort to even move it at all, never mind as much as needed
Melted insulation on the wiring (not a major issue, but not what you’d expect on a £400+ instrument either)
In the end, as nice as it felt to play, just wasn’t happy with it
They’ve used several third-party pups. But, as the video said, they are back to making their own, with their own signature engineering and tone. That’s what I’m going with.
