Congrats, @joergkutter. Here’s to some cherry-sweet playing.
I’m curious to hear how it compares to your other Jazz-y bass. ![]()

HFS! That’s so badass.
It really is
I can see that this should really be your bass ![]()

That’s a Gibson SG Special, limited edition custom color aged Pelham Blue, 2019. It’s in the “Original” range which corresponds to the Fender American Vintage Reissue (AVRI) range, and that’s why it comes with the small “Angel Wing” pickguard, and the classic brown hard case. It’s more or less a reissue of the 1961-to-1965 SG Special. The nitrocellulose finish is extremely thin, and it is called “aged” only because it’s a little bit greenish, but it’s not relic at all.
I’ve been told by Gibson specialists that the quality control has become much better since 2018. I don’t know what happened exactly, but what’s sure is that this SG is a very resonnant, very lively guitar. The finish quality is really excellent, much better than on 2000’s and 2010’s Gibson, including the Custom Shop ones (which can be surprinsingly crappy, really).
The neck is the Slim Taper profile, but I find it more chuncky than on a lot of SG’s. That’s fine for me.
I have all the original parts, but I bought it with those upgrades :
This color is very hard to render in picture because it changes very much from blue to green depending on the light. It’s more blueish in person. The official pictures show more the actual color.
Well, the only thing I’m sure to change is the bridge pickup, which is great but way too “vintage” for me. I might buy a Bareknuckle Stockholm or a Duncan Custom P90, we’ll see.
So, yeah, many years after I sold my '93 Les Paul Standard, I bought a Gibson again. I like to think that it would have made Joe (@Jazzbass19) laugh at me. That’s a good though.
I really like the Gibson SG series for bass and guitar ![]()
Nice find!
This is a pretty cool new product from Fender if you like modelers. Got me excited at least!
It does sell for a whopping $1700 and I have no clue if there are any bass sims included…
(edit: I read on Reddit that bass amps will be added in the next update)
Personally I am more interested in the new FRFR speakers!
(they also have a 10" version)
ho I like this FRFR
I can’t see myself buying a Fender FRFR over, you know, a PA. For $549 you can get a pretty awesome PA. And of course PA are FRFR.
Oh they are just in time, NeuralDSP dumped the price of the Quad Cortex yesterday. 1699euro including VAT.
Yeah, I think Fender is mainly competing with Headrush and QC. I can imagine the workflow on those units are a lot better compared with a Helix or ToneX
I love the design tho, just remembered that my cat loves the grill too…

With a Helix I would just use Helix Native I think and store a bunch of presets on the pedal. That’s how I ended up using the Zooms with Tonelib, worked well.
“Fender FRFR” - two marketing terms for the price of… three!
I mean, I like the feature set of the Fender. I don’t really see anything that makes me say “Wow, I wish I spent 7 times as much and got that instead of the B2 Four”.
The thing that jumps out to me first is it has the same glaring thing that I can’t stand about my Zoom B2 Four: I have to physically plug in my iPhone/iPad to manage patches and such with their app. Yes I know I can do it on the Zoom itself but it’s clunky to say the least. The Zoom is much faster and easier to fiddle with via their mobile app.
The Quad Cortex at least allows wireless management via wifi which is awesome.
I can see the lower price pedals not wanting to do the extra effort for something like that but at $1700? There’s no excuse.
What an outrageous coincidence.

It’s gorgeous, I love it. Now if it had been an Epiphone LP there would have been some LOLs to be had ![]()
Gibson dual P90 is just such an awesome, classic sound.
I know what you mean about the color.Half of my blue instruments have been like this. My Revstar looks very different in person than photos, and my SBV-800MF is straight up green, despite being called (and photographing as) Candy Blue.
Those were my top choices too! I went with the SD and it sounded great.
Congratulations @terb !
Yeah, those metallic colors can be very sensitive to light, and hard to capture in photography. That’s something that we must know. Otherwise, I like that, it’s like a vivid character. My “Race Green” Stratocaster is like that too.
Oh, interesting ! The two pickups are about the same price tag here in France. I don’t know yet, I might take some time to compare and eventually find other pickups in the same idea (modern P90, still a pure single coil, capable of true metal tones).
I was looking at that last night. Spring of 2024 they’re adding the bass stuff with an update.
What I heard sounded pretty great and everything thing I saw with people using it makes it look like Fender did an excellent job on the user interface.
I think the Bareknuckle was definitely better but the price difference here is large.
