Congratulations @PamPurrs
She looks as good as as the promo pictures if not better.
The tape wound strings will sound awesome I’m sure but you and @howard have certainly gone above my level of morning understanding with the bridge :joy:

Yeah the bridge is indeed a mystery to me. Apparently if you’re not careful it will move while changing strings

LOL @Mac that’s okay, I wasn’t aware of the floating bridge either until I got the Hofner, and then I had take a crash course.
Basically, with a hollow body there is nothing underneath to which a bridge can be attached, so they use bridge that is only held in place by the strings. If you remove all the strings, the bridge just falls off.
There are no intonation screws on the bridge, so the only way to adjust the intonation is by moving entire bridge backward or forward and at slightly different angles. If the intonation is too sharp, you move it back toward the saddle. If it’s too flat, you move it forward toward the neck. So far, it’s been all trial and error. I would love to find a more scientific way to do it.

So it’s pretty much what I had on my old acoustic 6 string
I knocked that over a few times and just rammed it back in there!
Mind you I knew nothing about intonation at the time and I was only 13 lol

Ugh!.. You guys are killing me with the Ibanez Hollow Body. (I don’t need another bass… I don’t need another bass… etc.)
That is just beautiful Pam. Can’t wait to hear the first cover from you with it.
Congrats!

It was a short fling, but filled with passion.

Next you are gonna not like the sound with tape wounds, and throw some rounds on it and find yourself a new sound from a hallow body, and the world is going to flip over on its axis.

I already discovered the LaBella tape wounds won’t work. They’re short scale, which I though this bass is, but apparently I need medium scale.
All the strings I have in my closet are long scale, except for the Hofner ones. I’ll prolly put those on until I can get a set of medium scale flatwounds.

Nope, I just measured the Hofner strings, they’re too short also

you might want to try it, unless someone has confirmed they don’t fit. I think a lot of ss strings fit medium scale. might be worth finding out?

Long scale might work fine too.

yeah, I was going to say that too.

So far the tape wounds were too short, and it really looks like the Hofners are too short also. The problem I see is the saddle on this bass is set way far back from the bridge, which creates extra space from the little nut on the end of the string to the tuning peg. Which makes short scale strings too short.
I’m gonna see if I can get the Hofner G string on in the morning. I’m too tired now.

I put my half rounds on it, but they’re so long the wound part of the strings are wrapped around the pegs.

I always cut my strings to length and have never had any issue with them unwinding. ymmv of course. some guys crimp the end with pliers by putting a small right angle bend near the end as extra insurance.
