Wow! That was a big, fast change.
Nice one, I love my banjo but it is sadly neglected these days and I am rusty.
Here is my favourite banjo player, who discovered he could tell jokes too, playing one of my favourite toons clawhammer style
Billy said you will never hear anyone say “She’s out back with the banjo player…”
Correctomundo! That’s because they never made it past the floor behind the bar.
After 45 years, I thought it was time to upgrade the Stylophone to a Korg FM2. I now want to complete the Volca set…
The Volcas are so neat! Just cute little synths and samplers.
Yeah, I had a lot of fun with this yesterday. I have no synth experience so messing with dials etc is quite new to me, but good all the same.
The whole line is adorable.
If you get hooked, another inexpensive gem you might want to check out is the Arturia MicroFreak. It’s a bit more expensive but is a more serious little synth, and still cute.
Jealous of the stylophone.
Billy Connolly has always been one of my favorite comedians. He’s irreverent as all hell but also funny as all hell.
‘If’ I get hooked…second hand Volca Drum on it’s way, and also making the most of Amazon’s 1 month ‘free trial’ on the Volca Keys! I had looked at the MicroFreak, but considering the Arturia Keystep37 as it can be useful in various ways.
Or I just send the lot back and buy another proper keyboard, which puts me back where I was 2 years ago before I had my bass epiphany
Those see great. Check out the Volca Sample too, looks like a ton of fun.
KeySteps are fantastic! But it’s a MIDI controller and sequencer, not a synth - however you could use it to control your Volcas.
Got a cheap 30€ midi controller from AliExpress that I abuse for non-midi stuff (controlling ToneLib Jam and notation software while practicing).
Chocolate Plus MIDI controller
The card is for size reference…
Documentation kind of sucks, but now everything works perfectly. If I knew anything about MIDI, I’m sure I would unlock more interesting features…
It can do much more than what I use it for. For example, you can connect an expression pedal and it will send MIDI through USB or Bluetooth. It’s small, light and durable (metal).
You can use it for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android … or directly to control a pedal, if I understand it correctly (I saw a video with a Zoom pedal and a HoTone).
Might be a nice device for some of you!?
Get the Plus model!
Quick run through Ikebe today. For no reason I swear
The new colors for the BB734a are so good.
Both blues on the BBP are still gorgeous too.
Also saw a nice Misa signature Black Smoker.
I already own 3 virtual synths from Cherry Audio, so I have stuff I can play on it.
I was trying to avoid going down the full size keyboard route again as I’ve had a couple in the past. The Keystep, and others like it are ideal. When I was learning to play piano I was quite unfocussed. Now I’m learning bass guitar, I have more of a direction to head for (synth bass) so I’ll be able to get a lot more out of them.
I love Cherry’s synths, PS-20 is great. And of course Atomika.
I haven’t tried those, will have to try the demo versions. I have the MG-1, Polymode, and Mercury 6.
That looks familiar That teal is really pretty in person. It looks like its more translucent on the BBP, I can see some of the wood grain behind the blue still?
BBP has two different blues and both are amazing. One is this translucent blue called Moonlight - @JerryP has one. The other is my fave, a deep midnight blue.
Cool!
PS-20 is, of course, a Korg MS-20, and it’s quite good.
Atomika is a Polivoks
Another good one of theirs is Dreamsynth, which is kind of an homage to the '80s digital wave synths like the Ensoniq ESQ-1 and Kawai K1/K4/etc.
I watched a video of a Duran2 song yesterday, where JT is playing a bass synth, switches to a bass guitar, then back again…
I’m bloody GAS’ing again!!
