PBass, not sure of the model as their model system is confusing, but the basic P
Oh itâs THAT Ashdown? Their amps are good.
Yup, thatâs the fender bass that most appeals to me actually!
Everyone should have a pink bass!! As punk as fcuk!! ![]()
Spector NS Dimension HP 5 5-String Multi-Scale Electric Bass Guitar White Sparkle Gloss
Donât own it but noodled with one of these at the local GC out of curiosity. FWIW, at least in my case I found that fanned frets/multiscale is not that big of an adjustment. I didnât really have much of an issue with the 16.5mm string spacing either. Getting used to a 5 strings - itâs a whole ânother thing that would take me quite more to get used too.
Some Spectors and a few other brands are the only ones that hug you back while you are playing. I love them.
I posted it a while back, one of my project basses is an old body I got on Marketplace.
It has been well dropped and I am sure run over at least once.
Put a neck and such with old looking tuners and bridge cover.
Looks fine; I will upgrade the pickups one day as I just used cheap ones.
Would I do this to a new looking body tho?
Nope
Restorations are another thing entirely. I envy those who are capable of pulling them off. Me? I utterly failed the woodworking component of my 9th grade Industrial Arts class. Task #1? Take a 4âx3â piece of 1âx4â and plane 90° edges on all 4 sides. Every other student in the class finished in a couple of minutes. Me? My piece of wood got so small, I couldnât get the plane on it. I went to the teacher and asked for another piece of wood. All I got from him was a big ânopeâ and an F for that task. Oh, and I canât draw a stickman with a ruler. ![]()
Same, I could handle working with the electronics (with a little practice, I havenât soldered anything in 30 years) but I wouldnât trust myself with doing anything more complex than putting in strap locks when it comes to the wood. Maybe sanding and refinishing, but even then, I wouldnât know the first thing about sealing it once I was done.
I can do minor woodworking tasks - sanding, finishing, drilling, reaming, drilling out and doweling, etc - but I do not trust myself with routing.
That is my next job
Most important learning: use proper power tools, not a Dremel. Youâll be all right ![]()
Of course you canât. Rulers are for measuring with, not drawing with. Can you draw a stickman with a pencil?
If its a Sandberg, gold hardware grows on you. Got an used Sandberg Taylor 4 with Walnut Top and delayed my decision to buy for some time. Since its in my house I absolutely love it. Maybe the Pao Ferro fretboard does the trick, its shimmering a bit golden, too.
I guess I set myself up for that one. ![]()
Asked myself what to use on business trips and thought about Kala U Bass, Ibanez GSM Mikro, a 27â Maruszczyk Frog Piccolo with regular strings and some more.
At the end I decided to blindly purchase a short scale Ibanez EHB, the 1000S. It was only distributed from 2021-2024 but luckily I could get it for a bit less than 600 USD.
It comes with a bag and after the first use its quite stern and easy to use. So if anyone need a 30â short scale bass with a nice, flexible tone - I can highly recommend it. Absolutely love the fretboard (not a fan of rosewood, which limits my options)
Size comparison to a regular 34â Sandberg (Ken Taylor 4). Its about 3.2 kg which helps a lot carrying though trains.
I have the same bass, purchased new in 2022. Itâs excellent. Here are a couple of charts you might find helpful.
Well this time a question pre-purchase: for some mysterious reasons I started to want a PJ, more specifically a Japanese PJ. First of all any MIJ stuff Iâve ever purchased (no matter if electronics or cars) have been truly amazing, second I miss the true P sound (since let go of my Squier 40th Anniversary P) and maybe replacing my Jazz with a PJ to get best of both worlds but need to test it so not selling it before having a PJ thatâs proven.
Iâm aware that true P sound comes from, well, a P, but have heard so good things and seen/heard/read so awesome reviews of the following two that I wanna pick one of them (also similar price range) therefore asking for opinion of this trusted board of members ![]()
- (Used) Fender Aerodyne, long time favourite as light but perfect sounding, used but MIJ product.
- Yamaha BB434 or 734 (Japanese brand and QC but made in Indonesia) which if craftsmanship is the same doesnât bother too much as buying new.
No, I have not tested either as not available anywhere in the country AFAIK but Iâm seeking your opinion, please share if having any pro/con (PJ-wise, Aerodyne-wise, Yamaha-wise or any-wise
), would really appreciate your view on it!
Pics to draw attention:
I had to double take on this photoâŠan EHB1000S with a headstock?!! ![]()
I also have one, but in dusty pink. Itâs excellent, although I have not played a gig with it yet as the fret markers are invisible in low light. They are supposed to be luminescent, but that lasts about 3 minutesâŠthen youâre blind. This isnât a problem at home, but in a band context, I donât want the worry of getting lost. I have thought about getting some small white stickers to help, but havenât got around to it yet. Notwithstanding, I really do like how the bass plays. In fact, a colleague and I had a âbass-offâ one lunchtime this week, in the office. He has a green one, with flats. Mine, as I said is pink, but strung with rounds. ![]()
