Getting rid of Google, Microsoft, Meta etc - alternatives?

Most people here can’t give a definition of a socialist. They just use the term

Many people here also don’t know what “US” is. They just know it’s “THEM”

But the definition of a socialist is easy: somebody who behaves (mostly) according to the new testament, without necessarily believing in a God.

Yeah, it’d be nice. Alas, most of us are so concerned that a couple people might get something they don’t feel they’ve earned that they screw over themselves as well. Big bad bogeyman. Anyway, if we keep going down that topic of conversation we’ll get in trouble for being political.

Yeah! This is the IT dork thread, after all

A socialist is someone who believes in collective ownership, basically the government owns the businesses. We have very few of those here though the term is tossed around a lot.

Isn’t that communism?

Exactly!

But let’s stop here. It’s getting too hot

Agreed! Rules: no religion, no politics, be nice.

Communism goes farther that there is no ownership and everything is shared.

Should be: “No sustain, no tone wood, no string action height”

I’m more worried about cuminism. When Big Spice controls the means of seasoning. I’m sorry. That was weird.

Hahaha! A friend of mine uses the same term! It’s a worldview based on love

Every time I see that there are 10 new messages on this thread, I start to worry it might be seriously going off topic.

The whole reason for this thread is to find alternatives to big tech, for privacy reasons.

In the end, we always manage to

I forgot to post this here: https://european-alternatives.eu

When we scroll down to Categories, there are long lists of European services. For email providers, there are 20 different services. Lots of great options. Especially those that are end-to-end encrypted.

The Danish raised it up a notch higher:

What’s their problem? Rhetorical question

And here is something new, for those thinking of some day move from iPhone or Android:

“Motorola announces a partnership with GrapheneOS Foundation, marking a new chapter in smartphone security and expanding its enterprise portfolio”

However, I’ll be staying with my Samsung phone, at least until banking apps will start working on other platforms. My banks’ apps only work on iPhone and Android. I hope Motorolla partnering with Graphene OS will gradually change banks’ minds. A reason to ditch Android is how much telemetry and trackers are all the time collecting user data and selling them. It is not a privacy focused system.

Graphene OS = Android, is it not?

Anyway, I don’t get stuff from a company that @TheMaartian worked for

I’ll wait until you, @andrea-sld, revive Nokia. Nokia was sooooooooo cool, also for TV related stuff…

I recently heard of Fairphone. It is an interesting concept: it is a phone designed to last. The user can repair the phone if necessary. It is easy to replace the battery, camera, even the screen, and other parts. The idea is to be an environmentally sustainable phone.

It comes with either Android or /e/OS, an open-source operating system from Murena. I love the idea of having more options of operating systems, as long as the bank apps would work in them.
