Good Bass Day

Everyone gets to stand under the shade except the bass player. It figures. :man_shrugging:

It was great fun! In hindsight, I wish we’d taken an hour slot :joy:

Actually, I chose to stand where I was. I was movin’ and a groovin’ and there wasn’t enough space for me to be doing that, brandishing a bass and not whack our singer in the face with the headstock :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Next time make her stand out in the sun if she doesn’t want to get smacked with a bass.

Coolio! Being an incessant questioner, I just had to check. Turns out I guessed right!

Epsom salt is one of many naturally occurring mineral salts, a compound of magnesium and sulfate in rock-like formations. The name ā€œEpsom saltā€ is a nod to the town of Epsom, located a stone’s throw away from London in England, where the salt was supposedly discovered about 400 years ago.

Obviously because he’s playing the coolest instrument, so needs it less.

Playing metal (ā€œWar Pigsā€) on a fretless bass is stupidly fun.

I was watching a bit of The Warning Hellfest concert and when they got to Disciple I decided to figure out the opening riff by ear. It only took me like 5 minutes which is a big win. I’ve been trying to focus on picking things up by ear and I not only grabbed the right minor key shape, I picked up the correct starting note just from my memory of the sound. Super stoked about that!

For songs primarily guitar or bass driven I usually first check if it is E Minor or A Minor. You’d be surprised.

D gets a decent amount of play b/c of drop d it seems.

Every once in a while you run into something where it’s clear nobody in the band cared about anything besides fret numbers and shapes b/c the key signature is painful though. I guess if there’s no keys or horns why should you care.

Yeah Dm is another one.

Mostly I think they are catering to the vocalist.

Simple, nice bass morning; I looked down, saw my new SBV-550, smiled, picked it up, banged out Joy Division’s ā€œThe Only Mistakeā€ by ear and memory, had a nice warm fuzzy feeling, but it back down. Time to go to work.

Badass! Such a good feeling.

Keep going. You’re only going to get better and better.

I’ve had some good bass days, as in I’ve actually managed to play.

Work has been a lot and I haven’t had the mental bandwidth for my hobbies recently :pensive:

I’ve had some days off so made sure I picked up my bass - I’d really missed it. I’ve now completed the extra main lessons from the new BassBuzz course

My challenge now is making sure I find time for playing alongside work.

You’re doing better than I am. I haven’t picked up my bass in a week. I screwed up my elbow playing with my grandson (he’s 6 and it still feels weird thinking I’m old enough to be a grandfather). I tried to power through when they went home but it was getting worse every day. I’m hoping that another day or two, maybe this weekend at worst before I can play again.

I know the feeling, well, sort of. I was sidelined when I tore a tendon in my wrist and getting back into it with my new bass after a break, and I suck at it lol. Oh well, time to get back in the saddle

It’s a bummer… but I mean I did hurt myself on a ninja warrior course at a trampoline park playing with my only grand child. Worth it imo.

Was going through some lessons that I haven’t completed yet since I’m getting ready to wrap up the course. Of course the first one was Billie Jean lol. I’m happy to say that I made it through! The only thing that screwed me up was that I didn’t remember about the rests when it jumps up, so I got thrown off by trying to incorporate those. But all in all, I’m pretty proud of myself (and I don’t come by that statement very easily).
