Harley Benton Bass VS (Bass VI)

I’m going a little off topic but this seems to have become the Bass VI thread.

The Schecter Hellcat VI is selling for 30% off if anybody is looking for a really nice (expensive) Bass VI.

I have ordered some strings from Stringjoy, the .095 rounds, to test.
Also ordered a Guykyer trem and roller bridge.
I also ended up putting the smaller capacitor back in, I decided that it made a bigger difference in the sound/tone.

Quite enjoying the HB so far, a very different animal to the 4 strings.
Playing some Shadows and Ventures type toons

The Hellcat is purty but way to much in Australian money

I like reading these adventures with the bass VI. Keep the reports coming.

It’s way too much for me in any kind of money!

So some changes.
I got a Guyker not a Les Trem (honest) and roller bridge in the mail today :sunglasses:
Both fitted right into the ferrules already in place-no mods.
Because the trem is for guitars the bass strings were too thick so I did some surgery with a hi-tech hand drill and now they fit.
I took off the flats and put on the light weight rounds it came with as a test but also because I am swapping to some Stringjoy .95 rounds (when they arrive).
How does it play?
Well I spent the last couple of hours on guitar pro playing spaghetti western and 60’s surf music guitar parts with reverb and I like it.
I don’t really know how to use the wiggle stick so I am pretty light on it but did do some dives.
It seems to hold tuning reasonably well, I do lift it from time to time as I read that this helps return it to mostly in tune.
With the rounds it is bright again and I think I will keep it in rounds as everything else I have has flats or tapes.

It is now a bit of a weapon, I just need to get the skills to tame it

The Stringjoy strings were OK but did lose a lot of the bass compared to the flats.
Put the flats back on today and this happened to the low E:

Emailed Thomaan and I am hoping they will help replace it as it is only a coupla months old.

Update,
Thomaan emailed me back overnight and it looks like they will mail me a replacement.
I can’t fault that for customer service.
Hopefully this one won’t break-not sure what happened as I had the same strings on previously

That’s weird. I’m glad to hear they’re taking care of it.

Yeah, I initially asked they what type they used so I can get a drop in and they just said they would send me one- very helpful.

Haven’t posted in a while, but remember way back when I was gathering parts? I ordered a Straytrem bridge back in October, they said to wait eight weeks. Well, today I got the invoice and it’s shipping. The last part needed for the upgrade.

The bass itself is holding steady for March

Just to give an update, the purple bass VI I have on order didn’t get herein December or March like it was supposed to. Now it’s going to be July.

I have a whole box of parts waiting for it. Sometimes second guess, but hey.

Sorry to bump thread but this made me register.
I’m looking to order the Harley Benton Guitarbass VS next month. I was looking for more information about how the pick up control works?
I’m massively intrigued by descriptions of experimental.
I’m more focused on “played in Baker Street study” than playing on stage.
And there’s a warning on the right of the screen about bumping a thread that’s over a year old.
At least I’ll probably have saved the mods a merge.

Hi, This is a great guitar and you should be happy whether you leave it stock or mod it like I have (see the comment about the tuners at the bottom tho)

the stock control is a 5 way strat switch
I added another circuit to mine which connects the neck to the bridge pickup and allows those to be used together in the bridge position and all to be used in the bridge+middle position.
I added another switch with a strangle circuit.

I initially replaced the stock pickups with Ceramic lipsticks, but recently put new Wilkinson “hi output” strat style ceramics in-I like these.

I have also put Stringjoy rounds on rather than the Pyramid flats I was using.
I used this for the open mic gig last week.

Just yesterday I put the trem bar back on, but I think I will take it off- I put it on as I was also replacing the stock tuners (which are a bit fragile and I now believe inadequate) with Guyker locking tuners. These are inexpensive and quite good.
