@Al1885 do you think this is a good bridge to upgrade the HB P bass?
- Dimensions (L x W x H): 80 x 57 x 15(19) mm
That’s defo next on the shopping list.
Yes absolutely. I have that bridge on several of my basses. You can adjust string spacing individually very neat. Here’s one on my Tobias.
The EMG P and GZR PJ pickups come in a kit with pots and a jack input included:
Great, thank you Mike! Just a question, because I am confused: why would I need a battery bus on a P bass, since -as I understand- the electronics is passive?
These EMG pickups come with active electronics, so I guess that’s what they need. Not sure if they would produce enough output (or even work at all) with passive electronics. If you want to keep the bass passive, you might want to check other pickups.
Yes @Mike_NL the EMG passive pickups especially the Geezer are pretty hot. They are very punchy. Active EMG are not as hot as other active preamp which basically a volume booster with EQ, EMG utilize the active circuit to counter the hum and noise generate by the pickup. The X series are more or less as loud as the other system.
Passive system gives you tone knob. Active systems give you 2 band, 3 band EQ with mid sweep and Passive/ Active option plus output boost. In the case of EMG, the electronic current also counter the hum, as I mentioned on the post above.
You don’t have to stick with just one color as there are choices on EMG.
Another great passive P pickup is the G&L MFD. it’s pretty much a drop in mod. Sound super awesome.
Dimarzio Relentless is also another on of my favorite it’s hot and punchy. Awesome design as well. Here’s my custom EMG Passive Riptide J with the Relentless P Passive system on the Aerodyne Fretless.
YES. Awesome pickup. Al you should also check out the Model P.
I have a set of Geezers in one of my P basses and I think they sound great! Also, as you mentioned, no soldering required so they are very easy to install.
Thank you, I have quite a few things to check out, now
Thank you Mike.
My confusion mostly stemmed from this video:
in which a guy upgrades the HB P bass using the GB EMG pickups, but I couldn’t see any battery added to the electronics.
Geezer is a passive system.
The difference between the cheap bass and expensive bass is not the sound. Sound is relatively cheap to upgrade just pickups and strings. The big difference is the feel. More expensive bass feels better and “usually” have better fit and finish.
This is one difference between @JerryP’s new BB and mine. Mine has outstanding fit and finish, about MIA Fender level. His, though, is next-level. It’s also had that Yamaha sound bombardment thing done to it that breaks it in, so it already “feels” like a bass you’re comfy with.
