Hmm... SD "vintage" pickups?

This…

There are smaller too

So leave the hot / ground wires soldered to the pot and cut them back a few inches and splice the pickups with these connectors?

If there’s room, that would be a neat idea for swapping multiple pickups.

So, rather than swap them into my Charvel “no mod”, I’m going to swap them (at least the P pickup) into my Schecter PB4 which until now has not been touched as it’s been listed for sale.

Worst case scenario, I re-list it but now with an “upgrade” to SD SPB-1 pickups. Best case scenario… I love it and keep the “upgraded” bass. Because I really hate the Schecter MonsterTone-P pickups.

Neat. Those look convenient but I still think I would go with terminals instead if there is room to screw them in; more secure and actually maybe easier long term. Those would be fine if there’s no room for terminals though, yeah.

You can do twisted wires and shrink wrap that would do the job and neat looking too.

Done!

(Pay no attention to the fingerprints and schmutz on the bass, I haven’t yet cleaned it up from the installation. It’s actually a BeAuTiFuL bass.)

So, let me just say that I really dig this pickup in this bass. It’s exactly the sound I was looking for when I snagged that Schecter. Of course I didn’t get it with that MonsterTone-P pickup, and for that reason the bass has been on OfferUp since then.

It’s not any longer. For me, the neck on this bass rivals my Charvel. It’s got a 16" fretboard radius, which I absolutely dig (the Charvel has a 12"-16" compound radius neck, so the Schecter fretboard is flatter on the low notes, which is nice). And with this SD pickup, it sounds amazing.

I’m really glad I did this. Anyone want a Schecter MonsterTone-P pickup?

You can’t leave well enough alone?

I’m not sure I understand your question.

I had a brand new pickup that was just sitting. I had a bass that I liked aside of the pickup that was just sitting. I put the brand new pickup in the bass, and now I like the bass a great deal.

People swap pickups and preamps and all kinds of stuff around here all the time, why is this any different?

Good lad, If you were closer I was going to offer to do it for you

It was a joke about you tinkering all the time.

Oh, gotcha! I thought you were being serious.

I think I talk about tinkering a lot more than I actually tinker, though. Aside of a short lived attempt to build a Warmoth from scratch, I don’t think I’ve done much actual tinkering.

I’m in the same boat, I have components to build a few kick a$$ basses tomorrow but it’s the lack of time. I do have that itch to build again so it would be time for fun soon.

I just have a big bag of crimps from when I worked on the phone lines :joy:
Super easy to connect and squeeze off to remove without losing any length on the wires :slightly_smiling_face:

Even wired reversing cameras into cars and modified lighting wiring etc. Came in handy for all sorts! Only downside is the messy “jelly” stuff in them to keep moisture out
