If you want direct tone then the DAI is needed but you can just record from your phone and have ok sound, don’t record through the laptop and mic. Sound card on your laptop is usually not good even on the top shelf gaming rig.
What’s the end goal, simplicity? cost? complication? There are solution on every choice here. Best, of course is simple and easy at whatever cost,
