How did you get in a band?

Yes.
This is the next BB shirt, please.

Amen to that :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Bassist: Put me next to the drummer and let me do my thing!

Well thanks to all the good wishes and encouragement, the audition went very well and now after several decades off, once again call myself a bassist!

The first booked gig is in February next year. That should be just about enough time to learn to 45 minutes sets!

I have now been horribly affected by GAS as my 25 practice amp is nowhere near loud enough and I need something with a DI for the mixing desk…. This could be expensive

That depends on how you define “expensive”. For a gigging amp, you could do way worse that a Fender Rumble 800 combo for just under $900. Their 500 combo is also very good for less than $700. Both have 2 x 10” speakers. If you prefer a single 15” speaker, the 200 combo for just over $600 is great. I had to sell mine when I moved from the U.S. to France; it wasn’t dual voltage. I also sold my original 40 combo for the same reason. I replaced it with a Studio 40 when I got here.

There are plenty of opportunities to spend more, but for a first gigging amp, the v3 Rumbles are a good way to go.

Consider second hand…pretty much all my gear is used. And the great thing is that you can likely sell second hand stuff for +\- what you paid for it, if you find it’s not quite to your liking.
