I am building my first bass

@EvilGenius good luck with your first build, enjoy it, and be mindful that it’s addictive.
As Barney suggested, Ash needs grain filler or you will never achieve a flat (shiny) finish. Then sand. I go 240, 320, 600, 1200 grit (higher grits don’t make a niticeable difference).

Thank you, Jonathan Haynes. I appreciate it. Could you please recommend some grain filler? I’m going all the way to 3000 grit.

Sorry for the late reply. BassBuzz wouldn’t let me send any replies. Because, I have sent so many replies the first time.

Youtube is of course a fabulous source of info:
An option for grain sealer

This guy is really good at staining guitar stuff

Yes it is… That is how learned how to solder. Everything they said not to do. Is exactly everything I was doing. I will definitely check him out. I’m using oil based stain. Would mineral oil Spirits work for that?

It definitely looks a lot better with the wood grain showing.
