I can’t be trusted at the guitar shop unsupervised.
Went out today with a list of things to do/get, wasn’t able to to any of them for reasons.
We decided to stop at the music shop to have a look, I wanted to look a some Telecasters because I am mildly GASsing but will prolly end up with a cheap Aliexpress one I can mod.
We looked at and tried a couple of Squier teles but weren’t sold.
My son put one back and returned with a Jaguar that caught his eye, I know he has been having evil thoughts about these.
Anyway, long story short is it came home with us and the wife wasn’t mad.
It is the Squier Affinity Jaguar.
Sounds very good, was set up properly including intonation and we are pretty happy.

She kinda’ speaks for herself. Firebird tones, with a trem, and none of the neck dive. And gold. Because gold.
Hoping my red Tele will get here tomorrow.
Don’t know why I keep buying guitars atm
Well, after 3 weeks sitting in either Customs or storage my Aliexpress Pretender Telecaster arrived.
I didn’t know it had Fender decals and neck plate when I bought it as the headstock wasn’t shown.
It is a really nice piece of kit however, as good as anything I have handled in the guitar shop. Doesn’t feel like a cheap guitar at all.
Binding is perfect as is the finish, frets are filed etc.
Needed a significant set up, but I like doing set ups and I put on new strings straight away anyway.
These ones, as my son wanted to try them so we got a few;
Great strings btw.
I got this with the intention of modding it, but frankly it doesn’t need it.
The bridge pickup is super bright and twangy, which is what I want.
The neck pick up I may change but I don’t mind it.
Both pickups together sound great too.
All in all not bad for $200 dollarydoos (AUD) posted.
nice. Probably made in the same factory as the Fender China models ![]()
I suspect that is the case for a lot of Ali copies
Don’t feel bad , I purchased an 88 key electric piano trying to avoid the burn and loss of my favorite bass… lol but it’s not the same … and I’m coming home to we’re my hearts at.
Good for you! I actually went the other way… long time (50+ years) guitar player, bought my first bass earlier this year. Bass Center ran a promo and the Surf Green Squier Sonic was part of that sale, sub $175 AND I picked it up at the… wait, there is no Bass Center Store… Where did I get that bass?
Anyway… I’ll never be a Bad Ass, so be it. I still really like playing the P-Bass. I hope you equally enjoy playing your Strat (which is what I play with 6 strings)
I did it too! Godin Pro Session T. I have been down many rabbit holes to find a guitar and I am happy with my decision. I am also really happy to support a Canadian company.
Bass will still be my first love but SRV has done something to me. I also want a little more musical sparkle than the bass can provide.
I start guitar lessons this week. I will practice guitar in the morning to add sparkle to my day and practice bass in the evening to lower me down for bed time.
I am finding myself picking up the guitar a lot currently when I should be playing bass.
Since I got that red tele above I haven’t been able to put it down, I am not a good guitar player but it is fun.
Planning on doing some jam practice tonite tho-we have a few Black Sabbath and Ozzy songs so I am inspired by the weekend’s event.
(Wasn’t Geezer good)
Who says you should be playing bass?
Make music - ignore rules or self imposed restrictions. Rock n roll….
Well at those times I said I should be playing bass as I set aside that time for jam practice. I have guitar time between jams.
But I get your point
The good news is guitar practice translates over to and improves your bass playing. In my experience anyway.
Ever since seeing the Laufey Tiny Desk Concert on Youtube a couple years back I’ve been DYING to try a Gibson ES-275. It’s a rarer Memphis model they did for a few years from 2016-2019. Something about the guitar shape and the jazzy tones it created…or perhaps it was the way she wielded the guitar.
I’ve been watching various Reverb listings over the years but there would only be about a handful to a dozen listings and all quite pricey! I didn’t think it would be a guitar I could justify an internet purchase on for several reasons.
First, that era of Gibson had a lot of QC issues from what I’ve read and secondly I had never tried a Gibson hollow-body style guitar before so I really didn’t know what to expect.
So I waited, hoping for a local listing or something to that effect. A year or so went by and my GAS for this model of guitar would wax and wane.
Last month, I saw a listing come up that I just knew I needed to pounce on! I had bought my custom shop bass from this shop back in 2023 and the price was quite nice for the current market. So…I pulled the trigger and without dragging this out any longer, here it is!
I can’t put this thing down! Having fun with jazzy bits, improving over blues backing tracks, some soul/R&B licks and even some crunchy tunes. It’s been a blast.
Here is the part where I confess that’s not the only guitar I’ve bought this year… ![]()
Been having a lot of fun with the 6-stringed beasts this year. I still pick up the bass about once a week…
I do want to record a cover at some point featuring bass & guitar. Just need to find the right song! Rock on fellow buzzers!
(There’s a Grassroots version for about $300)
$375 you mean…
Maybe, or a bang dream. I should look into it
Those BanG Dream! minis are so adorable.
Actually so are the Fender minis when you can find them
